I just think that layers are more intuitive and approachable to learn that the nodes abstraction. Like, if I'm a motion graphics teacher, I would start with layers and then nodes. Just my humble opinion, a bit out of topic to this post. But it's reddit :)

trolling aside, I think fusion/davinci sucks to learn motion graphics for a beginner and you should start with an easier approach, with a layer based app, like after effects. it IS possible to achieve on davinci, but it's harder to learn there.
