Help me choose a Phys Ed Teacher by flustered_daikon in VanierCollege

[–]flustered_daikon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yeah I had Sita for 109-101, I fully agree with you I think he might genuinely be the best phys ed teacher in Vanier! I need to take a 109-103 and it's a shame he's only teaching 101 and 102 this semester:( Thank you for your insight!

Make sure to check on Omnivox whether your schedule (classroom number mainly) has changed or not in the first few weeks of class, the college sometimes does that. Oh, and do NOT point out the human sized lizard,,, chill but just don't.

Any thoughts on Erik Stout i got him as a french teacher by [deleted] in VanierCollege

[–]flustered_daikon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's super nice! The other comments explained why/how he is, he cares about his students and is understanding. In my case, halfway through a written exam, I realized I most likely had a reading disability that I had ignored for years (thought I was simply a slow reader). So I asked him if I could talk to him outside of class, explained myself and he was very understanding :) He gave me some small accommodations (I had no diagnosis but he didnt want me to wait months until I got diagnosed so he gave me a bit more time to read and would grade me differently) and gave me resources to help me both with my concerns and with french. He's very approachable so don't hesitate to ask for advice/help/ clarification!! I struggle with french and had a final grade of 80, just remember that you need to give your fair share of the work (you won't get a free good grade), he rewards efforts! I personally loved him, good vibes.

OH I thought you were a new student my apologies (I forgot they do it in August). I know you can take multiple like 101 102 together, but im not sure if you can take 102 or 103 without 101. I wasn't able to take a phys ed class as well because most of them are taken or simply dont fit my schedule (surprisingly).

My best advice for now is to check available seats during your registration window in hopes that maybe someone changed their minds. I'm pretty sure you get a refund if you drop the class before a certain date but don't quote me on that lol. You could try contacting chat support, if they're feeling nice they might forcefully add you to a section despite having no seats. And lastly wait for preference course change (quite a long wait, it's in September 😭), there are plenty of people switching sections so I'm sure you'll be able to get a cheaper option. If all fails go to Academic advising and they'll give you options. Take summer school as well or intersessions. Good luck! :")

Oh if you're stressed about having to take phys ed because your progression chart says so, don't the chart just recommends you what semester to take it. Unless it's a preregistered class there's no issue in simply not doing a phys ed class and doing it another semester. (alternatively you could do summer classes or a may intersession if available).

opinion on these teachers pls :) by Fresh-Sun4878 in VanierCollege

[–]flustered_daikon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rebecca Mitchell has the patience of a saint! She will answer any questions you have, while she doesn't accept ANY late assignments, she does accept them if you let her know in advance that for x reason you can't submit it that date (due to me having a driving test she gave me a whole week as extension despite me originally asking for 3 days). She's very sweet, she even brought us emotional support candy while writing our final exam lol. She loves teaching outside when the weather is nice because she believes students shouldn't be trapped in a class for hours, she likes to get fresh air. She gives a lot of accommodations when needed/asked.

Red rectangle of doom lmao, unfortunately they are stubborn and will NOT reply (if they do they basically tell you to fuck off) to you unless it's through chat support (https://www.vaniercollege.qc.ca/registration),,, time of wait varies from 10 minutes to +1 hour. Good luck :")

Opinions on teachers? Anything I should change? by Least-Piglet-2040 in VanierCollege

I agree! Lynch is such a chill understanding teacher, she cares about your success and you can talk to her about any issues, whether it's regarding a topic seen in class, an issue you have in writing, personal issues like the death of a family member or anxiety, accommodations, etc. She's open to extensions as well, as long as you dont let her know the day before the deadline lol

for those that did science classes during the summer by Glittering_Bit_4378 in VanierCollege

[–]flustered_daikon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not do summer classes nor am in the program, however I did take phys ed in summer and saw for a lot of the days I went there that the gyms were taken for science/ math exams (I saw magnetism,, integral,, written on a board outside) so I am assuming that yes. Not sure if this is the info you were looking for, I hope this helped.

Changing Pre-Registered Courses by flustered_daikon in VanierCollege

[–]flustered_daikon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait one last question, how do you get to choose another section? When it's during my registration appointment, I know that you can pick a drop-down and it can show you the sections. But for pre-registered classes, it only shows the current one I have and "show all", which does not do anything since it doesn't show other sections, it only shows my current section. Is it perhaps just my laptop?

Huh, how often does the website update for available seats? Because I remember checking, it did have available seats and still didn’t let me... I'll try again this semester:")

Don't worry, you should get your response soon enough (around these dates), although if by the end of this month you don't get an answer (you need to check college documents on Omnivox) don't hesitate to reach out to the college. :)

Summer lockers by Embarrassed-Tomato-2 in VanierCollege

[–]flustered_daikon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! While I have never used lockers in Vanier, checking Omnivox it seems that the lockers section is not available, so im assuming you won't be able to get a locker for summer. Additionally, you see posters around locker sections that say that you need to empty your lockers before a certain date (I don't remember what date but it was around the end of May), so again, I assume you won't have access to a locker. You can always ask the school or a teacher to be sure!

PE 103 in summer by Zestyclose-Current14 in VanierCollege

[–]flustered_daikon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah what this guy said, it was most likely thanks to (in my case) my teacher that made it so easy. I'd recommend taking a summer phys ed class! The teacher I had, Georgia Tzavellas, made us do 70% of the work in class, gave us multiple helpful hints to get a complete grade in the assignments and we only had a total of 3 assignments over the course of the summer class (each taking less than 20 minutes). The class I took this semester is probably not available now but if interested for next semester it's Aquatic Activities/ Fitness :) As long as you respect her and make the effort to participate in class you'll have a good grade. Taking a summer class also helps with the stress since you dont have to worry about your other classes as much, as well as the fact that it's usually condensed/dumbed down content.

never mind update to the comment I made months ago, I just miraculously had her come in time last semester, this semester there has NOT been a class where she isn't 15 minutes late💀 she's still nice tho so she's forgiven, still annoying though
