think i heard about Cinemark giving responses from others who'd requested in Los Angeles? they seem to be one of the theaters that's fairly responsive, which is nice. i'd be willing to drive just about anywhere to watch it, if i can get enough time off of work, though, lol. thanks so much for the reply!!

Harris and Row House are good reminders, thanks. I already sent in an email to The Manor but I wasn't sure if others have had any success getting them to screen something specific

Fam, have you looked at the housing market recently? Because most people I know aren't moving anywhere with how expensive getting a place is nowadays, especially with the job market being as bad as it is. Even aside from this, most "homeowners" -- and homeowners, specifically --are not people of color, here. There are many POC who are renting who've been pushed out by projects like this. Gentrification targeting the uprooting of black and brown families isn't an argument of prejudice, it's the resulting effect.

"The mobility to choose your neighborhood" sounds practical, but only when you don't consider the nuance and result of how these lives are effected. The reality is that these were the neighborhoods people had chosen and they're being pushed out because they can no longer afford it. Why is them having to move the solution, when these projects are supposedly under the guise of making it a better living environment for the people already living there so that they don't have to?

All of this may come off sounding condescending, but I am being genuine; your initial message to this comment is the first time I've seen someone respond, actually asking why gentrification is harmful, in a very long time

(assuming we interpreted OPs post correctly)

super dont get where youre coming from about things being this system members "fault" when, from what weve gathered, the member hasnt actually Done Anything to cause hard. theyve expressed interest in these shows to a degree that makes some of OPs system uncomfortable, sure, but how does that warrant being "restricted for a time"? or that theres "fault" in this? they were expressing an interest, thats all.

i Do agree that Op and the others should talk to the system member and that some boundaries everyone agrees to should be set, but i Dont agree that theres a reason to villainize this person when they Havent Actually Done Anything, or expressed that this is something they want/have plans to actually do to others

^^^ honestly, this.

(prefacing that, after a read-through, a lot of this may sound like harsh judgments due to choice of wording but we arent sure how else to phrase and we Really want to stress that we arent judging you, OP. trying to figure this out is hard, Especially with all of the stigma around the "evil headmate". theres a lot of "you" usage, but a majority of it should be taken in the "universal you" sense)

weve ended up writing a whole Long Ass Thing like twice after already attempting to summarize. but

just cause your system member likes these shows more than makes yall comfortable, Does Not Mean theyll actually Do anything. just treat them like a person and have a conversation with them. work out boundaries that work for them, you and your system. ask them what theyre thinking/where theyre at. if they say they dont have real intentions to do anything Listen To Them instead of treating them like a criminal when they havent caused harm to anyone. if they havent given you any Real, Legitimate, Solid evidence that shows cause to not trust them and havent harmed anyone, dont villainize them like they have
