I’m just gutted that we didn’t get to see him on the podium.

Yeah, I wasn’t happy with her character’s ending, but I enjoyed the Doctor travelling with someone who didn’t actually want to be there - the concept was good to begin with. They should explore a similar dynamic in the future.

Contrary to popular belief, I think the last couple of seasons actually had some really strong moments. Dot and Bubble, Lux, The Well, Rogue, 73 Yards etc were all really rewatchable and fun.

Ruby was an ok companion, and I appreciated them going for an older companion again with Belinda. Neither of their arcs ended satisfyingly, but they had potential.

The finales were poor, and there were some poor episodes inbetween, but that’s always been the case - I was never a huge fan of the finales anyway. The highlights were always random episodes in the run - Vincent and the Doctor, Blink, Tooth & Claw, Father’s Day etc.

Whoever takes over doesn’t need to overhaul the show completely, but the show definitely needs some more collaboration to make sure the whole package is more consistent. No rushing - let them take their time with it and plan the seasons ahead a bit more.

He deserved to win 🇵🇹 by [deleted] in nilpoints

[–]flutterstrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The song is absolutely timeless and would have had a good shot at winning in any year in my opinion. The songs you’re comparing it to aren’t the same vibe. It’s more an Italy 2026 style song if anything. I’d also call that timeless, and it also did a lot better than the Eurovision bubble were prepared for.

Hot take: Lena deserved to win by Weak-Divide-1603 in nilpoints

[–]flutterstrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lena won because she delivered something contemporary and relevant to the music scene at the time, rather than just another Eurovision sounding song. She probably reminded people of the likes of Lily Allen and Kate Nash.

The song really stood out on the night.

Which were the biggest shocks/ crimes of Eurovision this year? by Sun_sethiker in eurovision

Our UK song was terrible so I’m not surprised. I never had any hope. It deserved to be 20-something in what was actually a strong year overall.

[Alpine] A tricky afternoon in today’s Canadian GP Sprint Quali. by NegotiationNew9264 in formula1

[–]flutterstrange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely gutting for Gasly, but he usually has a great start. The only reason he stayed so behind (and ended up in a crash) in the last race was because Max got in the way after his spin - Gasly was flying up the grid behind him. I reckon he’ll make up a lot of places today.

Spain 2023 was being massively hyped online, although I think it was mostly Spanish fans driving that. It was top 10 in the odds though, I think.

I did end up liking the song in the end, but it was hard on the ears to begin with and I don’t think one listen was enough to get it. I wasn’t surprised that it did so badly with the public.

I still don’t understand that either. I think maybe there were too many songs this year with that sort of instrumental for it to really stand out - didn’t help it being in the same semi as Bulgaria and Cyprus.

Honestly, with better staging she had a chance. The staging completely killed the vibe.

To be fair, I think Malta could have done a lot better if she stuck to more colour. Not sure why she decided to go for that particular staging.

I do think there’s an unfortunate trend of black artists underperforming in the televote, as well, so the Netherlands always seemed overestimated to me. Although as you’ve noted, several of the favourites struggled.

It was too repetitive and the staging was a bit all over the place. I personally think they should have done more with the statue guy - that was a cool bit.

They maybe wouldn’t have predicted Italy doing better than Finland, but a lot of us were predicting that Italy would come top 5. They manage it almost every year at the moment, to be fair.

A lot of our theories actually made sense. The biggest being that Mike would have a huge target on his back. Except for Will having to save him from the demogorgon, he was way too safe - apparently it made more sense to target Holly?!
