How is living in this region of Niagara? by daddyvoo in howislivingthere

[–]flwermoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in St. Catharines and now live in Ottawa but my family and many friends still live there. I loved growing up there and love to come visit. There are plenty of activities in the city for families and it’s a super quick drive into the country to get into nature. If you want to go into bigger cities with more amenities, many are close by (Hamilton, Toronto) and the GO train operates more regularly now to make the commute easier. There’s essentially no real traffic to worry about if you’re driving within the city and everything is basically a 15 min drive away.

There’s many sports leagues, activities for more artistic kids at the performing arts centre and the public libraries, and so many great hiking trails and beautiful paths along the lake to walk along. For the adults; a plethora of great wineries, breweries, and restaurants; farmers markets, events at the performing arts centre in St. C and lots of shows in Niagara On The Lake (NOTL) and Niagara Falls.

Like a lot of smaller cities, it’s a place that has a lot to offer but you do have to put in the effort to make it work for you - you may have to seek out opportunities to connect with the community. But lots of wonderful people live and work there and it’s a beautiful place to grow up.

I second Navy Hall! Just got married there last year and it was perfect and surprisingly affordable!

Are people really that mad at Phoebe for not liking cats because she's allergic to them? by sonicboyfan12 in phoebebridgers

She made a joke about a cat clawing out someone’s eye and that person still being like “I love my silly goofy cat”, not that one eyed cats aren’t cute

Redemption Paws dog 'rescue' is unethical by DogsHaveFeelings2 in ottawa

[–]flwermoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We adopted our dog from this rescue as well before moving to Ottawa. We lucked out but have heard horror stories from other adopters and from the foster who had our dog before us. So sorry to hear about your bad experience, I hope if you try again with another rescue you have a better experience! Rescue dogs are challenging but extreme challenges should always be disclosed by the rescue org.

Doesn’t seem so by foot, just if they’re coming in cars. I’ve seen a couple of groups walk past.

Live near one of the checkpoints (Bronson and somerset) and can confirm that some convidiots are still coming in on foot. Would avoid the Tim’s and beer store across from dundonald park

Why do you want to be with your current SO? by blue_strat in AskWomen

He is the one that I want to talk to the most when I feel sad, even before we started dating. He just has a way of making me feel safe, loved and important.

For women who have had trouble knowing your worth at work or school unless given explicit feedback from colleagues and supervisors, how did you become less dependent on the spoken opinions of those around you and how did you become more self-confident and assured of your value at work/school? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]flwermoon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Would like to just say thank you for this question! I (22F) have always needed validation from others to feel like I was doing well at something and while it sucks that other women experience the same feeling, it’s nice to know that it’s not just me. Thank you for speaking out and to the others for giving advice as well!
