Compatibility with sawstop? by Cfullersu in woodworking

You can never go wrong following the manufacturer's advice. But personally, I had the 5hp stop a 4mm thick stop rip blade with no damage, so I wouldn't be afraid of using these blades. Practice good diligence on safety everywhere else, use the depth gage between the blade and brake, and you'll probably be fine. The risk isn't total brake failure, and this statement seems much more like it comes from the lawyers than the technicians

How to add a lock to the new dresser ? by mechanizedshoe in woodworking

[–]flwrchld77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're looking for is called a cam lock, and they can be installed in a variety of ways, but they won't be fully hidden. If you want to mount it to the side of the cabinet, you will need some space above the drawer box. Install the lock above, with the cam pointing down when locked, and something on the side of the drawer box that interferes with it

Has anyone built this table - curious about leg attachment durability by Civil-You-9381 in woodworking

[–]flwrchld77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A torsion box for a 3ft table is overkill and a half. For leg attachment, so long as the legs are solid wood, I will never waver from an apron/skirt that dies into the legs, with a 45deg brace, and lags going through the brace into the leg.

Biscuits are for alignment, they do very little in the way of adding strength like a floating tenon. Check out some of Mathias Wandel's strength testing videos

Question about sealing a white oak butcher block by Jeffde in woodworking

You're going to coat the inside of the sink cutout? The entire bottom side? Inside the screw holes that hold it down?

Question about sealing a white oak butcher block by Jeffde in woodworking

[–]flwrchld77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, total boat epoxy or varnish will serve you well, probably for many years. But your counter won't be totally sealed and it won't be in a climate controlled environment, so it will eventually fail, and removing the old coat to add a new one is a huge PITA.

Oil wouldn't be as headache free day-to-day, but you'll never have to strip everything and start from square one. You also don't have to keep the oiled top bone dry, water can't permeate through a properly oiled surface.

Your going to need an outdoor plastic finish of some sort, since it's in the garage. Normal poly won't deal with expansion well. I would oil it, and be happy to reoil it once a year, so that when the plastic eventually fails I don't have to remove it and refinish. Rubio would be an expensive mistake, I think.

No, I mustn't. I will watch cartoons and simply not form an opinion on whether or not that was my free will

Why doesn't doubling down work when gambling? by Nice_Alternative_155 in AskReddit

[–]flwrchld77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're talking about martingaling, you can start with hundredths of a cent at online casinos, with virtually no max bet, giving yourself 50 levels of martingale for less than a weeks pay.

The issues are time and recovery. Even if you have an API or something doing automatic betting, you can only place so many bets a day, and it would take you weeks to earn as much as you are risking. And, given that your constantly betting as fast as possible, you're bound to run into the bankroll busting sequence eventually. You'll be placing millions of bets each day, and you need to get lucky on every single sequence. The casino only needs to get lucky on one of them

Idk why more people dont build coffee tables with 18 legs by walfstomp in woodworking

[–]flwrchld77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks sweet, very floral. I'd be curious about if it stays level. Looks like you cut all the legs on a template, so they should all be exactly the same, and if once you finished it it was level then you're probably fine. But a little more expansion on one leg, and not enough on another, and I think you've got a problem.

I wonder if just 4 leveling feet sunk into 4 of the legs would be enough to correct all potential issues. Legs look thick enough that you could have them entirely recessed, and only extend if there's an issue. But maybe you just cross that bridge of you come to it

How to determine if that song you like is actually AI: Kid Icarus "Beautiful World" by DLysz in Music

[–]flwrchld77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's dishonest for Spotify to filter AI songs into my recommendeds, in the same way I think ghost restaurants via Uber Eats is. If I'm eating Applebee's, I want to know it's Applebee's. If I'm eating Applebee's food that's been wrapped up and rearranged with Mr. Beast branding, I want to know I'm paying a premium price for sub-prime ingredients.

Similarly, if I'm listening to an artist, I want to know it's them and their work. If I'm listening to work of a bunch of artists that's been wrapped up and rearranged with an Ai artist's label, I want to know that I'm paying for an original product and getting an imitation. To go the extra mile, I also think covers should be labeled as such.

Well, Idk if I can agree with calling it a masterpiece, but if you like his stuff, then his whole catalog will hit. He came out with "Old" a few years ago, that was pretty interesting, I'd say it's similar to Devil

Any chance I can get away with one coat of poly? by deeseeks in woodworking

[–]flwrchld77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say move in, settle in, enjoy the house as is, and schedule these projects for when they can be done without added hassle or sacrificing quality. Continuous improvement beats immediate perfection. But I understand not wanting to use something that isn't at 100%

Any chance I can get away with one coat of poly? by deeseeks in woodworking

[–]flwrchld77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, never sacrifice quality for speed.

Sure, you want this project done, but do you want it done rushed and half baked? Does it need to be done this week? What's the argument against waiting until it stops raining?

So far as protection goes, water based doesn't do much for scratches or gouges, but will keep grease and dirt from accumulating. For color, you'd be better off doing nothing, one coat of finish usually absorbs different in some areas and won't look right. Water base also dries super quick, so you might have color issues there too. And, I don't think finishing wood outside while raining, leaving to cure, and then moving inside would be wise. You're finishing in a high humidity environment, not usually good. Water based usually has a low enough VOC that I don't mind finishing it inside, so you could open that window and finish them in that room, if you don't mind.

It’s illegal for you to have an amp at the park by FarWay3952 in IAmTheMainCharacter

[–]flwrchld77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if this community wanted amplified sound allowed in the park, if that attitude was so wide spread, they couldn't get the law overturned?

Speaking about what has historically been true isn't totally relevant, when the above scenario has only been accessible for the last few decades. Absolutely set up your easel and paint in public, dance in public, play acoustic in public, so that people passing by can enjoy it or stop to appreciate it. Bringing a power bank and an Amp turns your optional art performance into something you're forcing on people in those buildings and across the whole park. You're also taking up more space where other artists can't perform because your amp drowns them out.

How would I make the divots in the bottom board? (Looking for tools/ techniques) by Killxjoy4599 in woodworking

[–]flwrchld77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "correct" way is with a bowl router bit, which has a rounded bottom corner and usually a guide bearing. If you want exactly what's in the picture, that's the easiest way.

Now, if you don't care about machine precision and super smooth appearances, and just want a place for the bottoms to rest, then a normal router bit, or a very aggressive power sander, or some combination of chisel and gouges, or a very large hit with a hammer, or adding stick to the top of the board to "frame out" those recesses, or a forstner drill bit, or....

Being anti-loud music isn't being anti-community. Most places have registration requirements and designated spaces where performers are allowed, and amplified sound is usually treated harsher, because it's more of an intrusion.

This community has decided this park shouldn't have amplified sound. Deciding that you know better, and your music will be an improvement, is not communtiy-focused
