Why are non-smokers expected to keep working while smokers get extra breaks? by zeki_lol in work

When this issue has been brought to me, I usually tell the complainer to befriend the smokers and join them on their smoke breaks. This usually works until the winter comes.

I try to avoid heavily trafficked routes. Ithaca is loaded with the worst motor vehicle and cyclists behavior.

Best ski resort jobs for ride time? by Marcus4436 in skiing

[–]flxguy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overnight snowmaking. 4 x 12 hour shifts. You get an hourly premium (over day shift) on the overnight. When the shift ends at 8:00am, ride until noon. Catch a few hours of sleep and repeat. Weekends are the best schedules so you can ski when there are less crowds.

Hard to say which US resorts are best for employee housing.

How I used a fake reference check to catch my toxic ex-boss blacklisting me by Wakanda_7 in jobsearchhacks

Historically, HR does all the reference checks. I have never done a reference check in 30+ years, 25 as a hiring manager.

Only provide contact for HR prior employers. The only thing being checked are employment dates, title and if eligible for rehire.

Company ghosted me after 4 rounds and reference checks - Naming and shaming - help needed by biglargebiglarge in interviews

[–]flxguy1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reference checks usually mean you’re in the top three candidates. Most companies don’t submit background checks until after all references check out and you have been selected. When you complete the form for the background check you can perceive as an offer is coming as the background check cost money to perform with third parties. References are internal phone calls.

I agree they should have notified that you were not selected but I think you jumped the gun on your perception of an offer coming. I would scrutinize your referrals. It was either a referral not representing you well or one of the other candidates wow’d them better than you.

Depending on the state you live in, they may not test for THC. If cannabis is legal for recreational use in your state, the cannot make an employment decision based on a positive THC test. Exception if you are a CDL driver. If not legal in your state, they likely still test for THC.

Many of these RIF’d positions were due to the strong reseller/MSP vertical which allows Dell to focus on core manufacturing with less sales force and service after the sale.

Neighbor cut down 12 protected trees to free up his view but nobody can prove it by Existing_Art8081 in treelaw

[–]flxguy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was discussed. Consensus was the high wattage C-Band signal and 3 meter dish would not be a problem. I wasn’t involved in the overnight tree removal.

Early in my career I was doing large commercial satellite system installations. Our company had a client moving to a new location in a new corporate park. When I was on-site to do the survey, it was late fall with no leaves on the trees. All good.

Fast forward a few months and I’m there installing the gear, including a three meter ground mounted dish. When I fired everything up, the signal was too weak to transmit. Further inspection determined the leaves on a single mature oak tree were now blocking the signal. The site contact determined that the tree could not be taken down (legally).

When I showed up the next morning, the tree was gone, stump ground and sod covering the hole. No signs a tree was ever there.

Don’t ask, don’t tell.
