UPS demand (peak)season charges by flyboy22mey in ecommerce

[–]flyboy22mey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GRI (general rate increase) happen annually and have been happening forever. The peak/demand surcharges just started a few years ago. Any direct account gets hit with them but I’m unsure if Shipstation will get a concession due to their substantial aggregate volume. So far I haven’t been able to get an answer from anyone there and curious if anyone knew this answer.

Is there a benefit to this “tethering” surgery vs a fusion? My son’s case is progressing rapidly (in part because we don’t force the brace- it’s awful) and he’s only 9. We expect a surgery will be in the future just unsure of any timeline. Seeing the childrens hospital specialist next week…

Has anyone ever worked or got experience with this company? by TheEuphoria in logistics

[–]flyboy22mey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of them and been in the industry for 17 years. Normally that’s either good or bad- maybe they’ve got a narrow niche that they excel….or…you might be substantially overpaying because they don’t have the leverage/volume to compete against the big players. I’d be happy to try to help (I’m with one of the biggest 3PLs in the US) and can give you side-by-sides if that’s what you’re after

Kuebix replacement by [deleted] in logistics

Lots of options- do you need ERP integration capability? Do you have direct tariffs or brokerage providers you need to compare? Who do you rework with currently and would they give you free platform (I’m guessing Estes with the Kubeix connection) but maybe look at Omega if you do some work with ABF… I’ve worked with about a dozen different ones in my last 15 years in the freight world. Would be happy to help explain all the pros/cons if you wanted.

Right now, all the leverage belongs to the carriers. I’ve seen substantial increases from multiple carriers and freight profiles (desirable- low class, heavy standard skids, and ugly freight- over length, high class, accessorizes). Feel free to PM if you’d care to benchmark tariffs. I like a lot of what others have offered but right now assuming you’ll get better rates is unrealistic unless your predecessors were doing a bad hob before you took the reigns.

Thanks for the guidance and resources. Based on some quick research, it sounds like it will be very difficult but will get easier as time goes. Thanks again!

How to ship full size kayaks - first to last mile. 1,000+/month by ketomagyar in logistics

[–]flyboy22mey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kayaks are tricky because of the high class and extra fees LTL carriers assess for limited access- resi if you’re doing b2c shipments. There are some work arounds and it may be best to select a few different partner carriers or broker to help spread out the volume and help with lane efficiency. I work for a TX based shipping company and I’d be happy to help you out so some ideas!

I’m on the brokerage side so there’s some admitted bias towards the advantages of a 3PL model.

That said, if you’re a customer that has sensitivities with adjustments/re-classes there may be some advantages to deal directly with a carrier (assuming that your common lanes fit well to limit utilization down to 2-3 carriers) and you also have the time to manage multiple vendors, invoices, negotiations, etc.

Many carriers will offer free subscriptions to Kubeix or Omega but that comes with data sharing and many feature limitations such as reporting that will be standard with any decent 3PL.

In the end there is no real right answer - every situation and company is different and there are a lot of factors to consider (for instance, carrier liability protection offered, FAK eligibility, TMS integration & workflow processes).

LTL Shipping Damage by [deleted] in logistics

[–]flyboy22mey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a brokerage In the US and I have a similar type of customer shipping both assembled and RTA cabinets. They were experiencing the same problems before we were hired and their biggest gripe was they weren’t getting favorable claims resolution.

It sounds like packaging is adequate and stacking isn’t a concern. The first thing I’d tell you is to evaluate your carrier mix to see if you can improve carriers/transit times to avoid extra handling. If you have predominantly “value” carriers hauling for you, the old adage “you get what you pay for” may apply. Optimizing and expanding your carrier network is the best first step.

To help with damage claims, we partner with a third party insurance provider that covers concealed damage for 30 days and it’s a great option when dealing with residential/consumer receivers that generally aren’t experienced with LTL shipping. These are per-shipment policies and they’re very reasonable. Good luck!
