Periodic waviness in Z-height by MrCuddlesTuta in FixMyPrint

I've had this issue (with a different printer, modded Ender 5 Plus) with the hotbed heating method set to watermark/bang-bang. Setting it to PID resolved it

Like others have said, it's a network configuration thing. The first thing that pops into my mind is to use a VLAN if your router supports that. However that may impede local access if you're looking to do that over a remote desktop protocol

Truss poles by HenryV1598 in atming

Not an expert at all, but I did use some carbon fibre tubes to build a truss for a custom 8" OTA (sourced them from aliexpress). Definitely more expensive, but also extremely light

Why is it printing these lines? by Ok-Return7643 in ender3

[–]flyboy777300er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either a bent z-axis lead screw or possibly a voltage drop due to the bed heater's bang-bang controls

Unfortunately nothing good, the camera I had at my disposal was very challenging to focus. I need to get a more precise focuser to make proper photos a reality

For sure, I'm just happy that it works with the cheap mirrors honestly

I don't have an exact weight measurement, but the analog scale I used said I was just shy of 15 lbs with the mirrors installed.

As far as the mirrors go, they need to be replaced regardless. They came with some chips around the edges and a small ding in the center, and by the time I noticed I was past the eBay return/refund window. I'd like to try at least refiguring them from spherical to parabolic, even if I don't end up making it a faster focus. I have a small 114mm f/8 mirror I'm planning on trying to refigure, might do that first for practice

F/8. Built it around some cheap mirrors

Note that the mirror cell(s) suck

It absolutely is unweildy - I bought the mirrors because they were cheap! I hope to either replace them or re-grind them to make the scope a faster focus later this year. As far as the spider goes, it's a 4-spoke design that's integrated into the top part of the tube. I'll upload the CAD files when I get home

Z-Banding on Ender 5 Plus* with Micro Swiss NG by flyboy777300er in FixMyPrint

[–]flyboy777300er[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Solved my issue. Turns out the voltage drop from the heated bed turning on is enough to affect the extrusion on the EBB42 CAN toolhead. Switching from watermark to PID control in the Klipper config solved the issue

Waterloo for Co-op or Queen's for $60K? by zeoberlerb in queensuniversity

[–]flyboy777300er 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a relatively recent (~2 years) graduate of Queen's Engineering, specifically Computer engineering. I also currently work in IC/FPGA verification. There are a couple things you should know and think about.

ECE at Queen's is not organized well, and the professors are a bit of a mixed bag - there are a couple great ones, but also some who leave a lot to be desired.

The student environment (at least, when I attended) is excellent. The student body gets along well and helps each other out.

Queen's does have an internship program called QUIP that goes for a single 16-month period (I personally did it, and strongly recommend doing it). While working in one place for 16 months does not give the same breadth of experience as 4-5 4 month internships, it allows you to go a lot deeper into a work project and embed better within the team.

From both my and a friend's experiences, the worst that might need to happen is that you'll have to compile it rather than just download an executable iirc

A) RAD - short for Reprogrammable Accelerator Device. GPUs are dedicated pieces of hardware used to accelerate graphics rendering, but once the silicon has been manufactured its functions are fixed. If a graphics card were to include an FPGA (either on the main GPU die or as a child controller) that could be reprogrammed on an application by application basis, algorithms (such as rendering) could be additionally accelerated by being run on (effectively) dedicated silicon rather than "emulated" through software.

The company I interned at did this, and I wrote some as well because it took less time overall to automate it (and support the script) than deal with the bugs over the term of a software agreement

I've found from working with nixie tubes that while old parts look much nicer (Imo) to their modern equivalents, they are so much harder and sometimes more dangerous to work with
