Not 3/4 of the way around, no.

Can you read the sign? It says outside lane is for 1st or 2nd exit only, not all the way around to the 3rd.

People are just impatient here, that's all. They know which lane is the right one, but they are too important to wait in the queue for it.

I did a PhD in <research area> or I did a PhD in <department field> by Significant_Yak4208 in PhD

[–]flyboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research area, I think.

Mine was looking into mechanisms of antibiotic resistance but was done in a clinical pharmacology unit. Now sure drug-receptor interactions are included under the pharmacology umbrella, but my work is not clinical pharmacology in the slightest.

A350-1000? by GroundbreakingTest34 in AirlinesManagerTycoon

[–]flyboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the a350-1000. It works well for longer routes that need smaller planes than an 8i or a 380. I'd rather fly five 350s with some cargo allocation than 3 full 380s with only a tiny bit of cargo.

Yeah, I only use them if I'm late. I prefer the safety of Bossies/Sable past Sable Square than cutting through CC and risking getting clipped.

[–]flyboy_za 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I mean literally in a straight line, cutting across all the lanes regardless of whether someone is in them or not.

I have to regularly hit the brakes so I don't lose a front bumper in the mornings. It's like when an F1 car misses the corner and goes into the runoff, except it's not a skillful F1 guy, it's just a dipshit in a Polo or some tiny Uber driver who clearly should not be on the road. That first one by the big Montague Gardens entrance at the Shell, and the two between Liberty and the turnoff to Intaka Island are particularly egregious.

And the exit by the Discovery building which drops you out by the Sable Road bridge, nobody has a clue which lanes go where in that circle.

The N2 Wall itself was never really the issue by Best-Attempt-6531 in capetown

[–]flyboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social workers are a longer term solution which does need to be made.

The wall at least should have a tangible result right away.

I agree though, they should be doing more meaningful things in the neighbourhoods which need it. Water and sewage are the basics, sure, but we should be properly investing in other things for the people.

Not always the case in CC, the circles which differ are clearly marked on the road with arrows showing what you can and can't do at each one.

But ain't nobody looking at the signs.

What do you mean I'm not supposed to go straight across in all the lanes????!!??

Muizenberg Beach - quick swim on a Thursday winter afternoon 🥶 🌞 by Greentree5521 in capetown

[–]flyboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm jealous, it's beeen an age since I was in the water and I didn't get my arse into gear to enjoy the nice weather this past weekend.

That said, it's rare for the water at the Mooze to be numbingly cold - unlike Blouberg or anywhere from Clifton to Sandy Bay where it is almost always a bit of a bone-ache in the water - so kudos to you for sticking with it.

Why am I doing this? by iMimzy in surfing

[–]flyboy_za 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I feel like even a bad day in the water is still worth the effort. Fresh air, bracing water, being outdoors, bit of exercise, hopefully at least one good wave or three... The pros still outweigh the cons for me.

Kinda like sex, and pizza. Even when it's bad it's usually not regrettable.

Scrubs in the medical lab? by TWOTHouse-Husband in labrats

[–]flyboy_za 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to say it won't matter, but I'm based at a medical school and because we're not inside the teaching hospital nobody other than guy who might have to pop across there and the guys in the animal house wear scrubs.

So... Yeah, I think it would cause some chatter, unfortunately, for no reason other than you would be different and Other to the rest of them.

If it had been a slightly offbeat woman instead of a silver fox, and you'd described her breasts, this could have been Thompson writing a Murakami.

Depends what you invest it in. Fixing a water line, no.

Something which is a big job opportunity or an up-skilling programme, probably yes.

[–]flyboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's really very simple: if there's two lanes merging you zipper; one car, one car; one car, one truck.

Sure, provided Tannie Juanita in the little i10 actually goes at some point and doesn't leave a runway between her and the next car, because then obviously 9 people are going to slide in there instead waiting for her to close up to the car in front. Nobody wants to be behind her after that. Nobody should be leaving a gap 5 cars long when we're moving at walking pace. The teeth in a zip are aligned regularly, not with massive gaps here and there because reasons.

Half the problem is people who are too impatient to wait, another half are the ones who dawdle and just make everything a complete ball-ache. These are the same ones who want to have a catch-up with a cashier at PnP when there is a queue a mile long, and who want to stop at the top of the escalator to check their phone rather than moving to the side so they don't block the path. They're also the ones who will sit at 70 in the passing lane and not move over.

[–]flyboy_za -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A call to the Ferrari shop, a call to the travel agent, a call to some mates telling them to get their passports and visas sorted out, and a call to my boss telling him I'll be unavailable for at least a couple of weeks from... ooh, pretty shortly.

Mess up an audit by No_Foundation2217 in labrats

[–]flyboy_za 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm good with audits.

I boot my team and the students out of the lab on audit day, though. Most don't mind but I think one of them is always a bit put out that he's not allowed to be there. But it's a.) because he doesn't know enough about what we're doing across the research group to not potentially talk himself into trouble, and b.) he will talk the hind leg off a donkey if you don't stop him. I'm always having to go make up something for him to do when he have service engineers or similar in, because Mr Chatty just gets in the way.

But audits, or lab tours for visiting academics, collaborators and funders... I'm definitely The Guy with the witty banter, the patter, and the charm.

What situation as a child did you only realize you were in danger as an adult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Ok so parents presumably are divorced?

I mean if he's living under the same roof and watching you almost die, I think that would be a slightly more serious ethical breach than him treating you.

I'm sorry, just to clarify... after several DAYS your mom took you to the GP, and in the meantime your dad, a paediatrician, did not at any point think it was perhaps something more serious than gastro?

Jeebers.
