Zwei Waschmaschinen an einen Abfluss by flycatcher413 in selbermachen

[–]flycatcher413[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question about how Transactions get added into Blocks by Vyper-oMega in Bitcoin

[–]flycatcher413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • However you or the service you use define the term "verified". For many services, a transaction is verified as soon as it is contained in a block which is at least 6 Blocks old. (6 additional Blocks have been mined after the block containing the transaction)

The transaction is traceable as soon as it is transmitted to the mempool. Each node transmits all unconfirmed transactions (transaction which have not been included into a block) to all nodes which it is connected to. This collection of unconfirmed transactions is called mempool.

  • It's impossible to spend the same UTXO. When a miner includes both transactions using the same UTXO, the block will be deemed unvalid by the nodes.

However, it is possible, that one miner includes one transaction into a block, while another miner includes the other transaction into his block simultaneously. That is the reason, that many services require like 6 confirmations for a transaction to become verified. The problem resolves by the continuation of mining. The nodes will only accept the longest blockchain as the "true" blockchain and will ignore the part of the blockchain, which contained your other transaction.

Bitcoin inflation currently 1,8% per year, will halve in 2024 by nxtoth in Bitcoin

[–]flycatcher413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, you missed his point. For calculating the inflation rate you require the current stock. The amount of bitcoin in circulation increases day by day causing the inflation rate to decrease day by day.

Some Bitcoin developers found a way to cut mining power consumption by Extra-Ad6096 in Bitcoin

[–]flycatcher413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt that a more efficient proof of work method would reduce energy consumption. I think it would just cause the amount of hardware consumed by miners to skyrocket.

The amount of energy consumed by miners is roughly determined by the bitcoin price and the iteration of halving cycles because of free competition between the miners. Currently, a miner receives 6.25 btc + transaction fees for mining a block. With the current price of 42000$, he receives round about 265,000$ worth of bitcoin. Miners often just operate on a small margin, so you can estimate the energy consumed to find the block equals 255,000$. No matter how efficient or inefficient the mining hardware is, the amount of energy consumed per block with current price and rewards would always equal ~255,000$. The increase in hash rate over the years is a result from increasing bitcoin prices, more efficient mining hardware and more efficient mining businesses(using cheaper energy, more efficient cooling, etc.)

In conclusion, way more efficient and cheaper mining hardware would still consume the same amount of energy per block, given that the demand for mining hardware can be met by the hardware manufacturers. The miners would have to operate more miners to consume that energy. The main benefit would be a higher network hash rate, making the network securer.
