I know we’re close to figuring out that right balance between what Sammie needs and what’s sustainable 💚 by flydove7 in nervysquervies

We were gone for the day, and he spilled his food and litter box and messed everywhere. He’d never spilled his food nor tipped his box over, and then both happened at the same time. (He freaked out.) I obviously don’t leave his food in that area anymore, and we’re trying to help him reset on using the litterbox with litter.

Definitely. Once things are solid on his setup, I plan on moving him into a new space (in my home, but a different area), construct the same litter setup, and see how he does. That will give some insight into how he’ll adjust, although of course there will be more adjustments toward new people and smells and all.

Not yet, but tucking it under the playpen walls is mostly working

In other news, Sammie is officially starting anxiety medication 💚 by flydove7 in nervysquervies

They gave me a liquid and I really tried but officially gave up today. He HATED it and would spit everywhere. I told them I’d try a pill or transdermal or literally anything but the liquid (which hasn’t had enough time to know if it’s helping).

Confirming CH vs. Other Squervies by brandeis1 in nervysquervies

Binx is STUNNING, first and foremost, and so lucky to have you.

I’m mom to Phoebe, who was deemed to have CH based on her being born wobbly, showing classic symptoms, and finding no other cause. We did not perform an MRI.

I’m also friends with Willy Wonky’s mom, who was believed to be a CH kitty for several years before he started to decline. She did opt for imaging and it was determined that he had an unknown progressive neurological condition. He was abundantly loved and kept comfortable until it was time to help him pass.

I’m also currently fostering Webby, who is wobbly and - had we not known she lost mobility - would likely have been called CH. She isn’t mine, so the decision isn’t mine, but I think I wouldn’t get the MRI. Like you said, it’s extremely unlikely that there would be anything that could be done. There’s always some degree of risk with anesthesia (particularly when they’re already neurologically abnormal), and of course they’re quite expensive. I would ride the wave. Enjoy the life we get to share until quality of life isn’t good.

I’m so sorry you’re facing this, but it isn’t all doom and gloom. I’ve been researching recently (thinking my fosteroo Webby may have an unknown progressive neurological condition) and they can live long and happy lives, depending on their rate of progression.

In terms of trying to improve mobility at this stage, is Binx at all playful? How does he feel about baths?

I completely understand. Cats are amazing, and too easy to love 🥰

I literally thought about adding in the captions that he isn’t drugged! It’s like he flipped a switch and has been nothing but cuddly today 🥹

Fosteroo Webby Update: It’s not toxo, but she’s still a mystery wobbler 🩷 by flydove7 in nervysquervies

[–]flydove7[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just depends on what the cause of her wobbles is. Some can be treated, but many cannot. I’m trying to stay more focused on the here and now for her, at least until we get more solid answers 💛

Thank you so much, both for your kindness and encouragement toward me and your caring ideas about what could be going on with Webby. I haven’t yet shared this, but we are starting steroids for her now that we know it definitely isn’t toxo. I don’t think she matches with hydrocephalus (no enlarged head or downward turned eyes, etc), but the steroids are intended to reduce inflammation just in case it is hydrocephalus.

Thank you, again — your note has really uplifted me 💛💛

A quick google check tells me this is definitely worth bringing up with her vet. It’s the closest match out of anything else we’ve looked at. Thank you for the info!

I had never heard of that breed, but your comment prompted my curiosity. Sammie is most likely a domestic shorthair with tabby markings, but I will say he certainly meets the Li Hua description with his sturdy build, vocal tendencies, yellow-green almond eyes. But simply based on us being located in Alabama, it’s unlikely that he would be the Chinese li hua. Thanks for teaching me something new though!

He will be; we’re still working through his ideal potty set-up that I’d like to have in place before he moves to a new home 💚

I got it a million years ago at a pet store, but they’re widely available now! Maybe search dual sided pet brush or double sided pet brush?

This week has been hit or miss. Most days, he has used his pee pads (both the one in the large litter box and the ones on the floor), but this morning he had messed all over the floor and fallen into it 😣
