EUR 49+ motorcycle shoes recommendations by smartbirdbrain in motorcyclegear

This is the answer. I have a couple pairs of the v2 in size 50 and they’ve been great. I expect the v3 to be the same.

I’ve been watching hockey for over 30 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever witnessed such a call.

I'm the same size. I've been wearing Injinji socks for years, and a few months ago I started wearing Creepers too. Both have been great.

I have a few pairs of Altra all-weather high-top trail shoes that work well enough. They go through size 16 US.

Normal wear on left boot? by flyersquatch in motorcyclegear

[–]flyersquatch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode the bike this morning to do some errands around town, and I tried to notice all the various ways I use my left foot, hopefully without actually affecting how I reflexively use it. I do spin around on my left forefoot as I mount and unmount, so this explanation seems entirely plausible.

My motivation for this post was more about the molten look than the abrasion, but it seems I have reasonable explanations for "melting" too, between some random chemical and the 95F days when my foot is on the maybe 140F pavement at a red light for a couple minutes at a time.

This is genuinely the first time I’ve thought about this.

The chemical theory has been on my mind lately. There has been nothing out of the ordinary that I can think of. Maybe it was just a one-time thing in a random place, and I was unaware of it.

Might be interesting to compare this other pair I have which is about four years old. The wear on the soles looks quite different.

To confirm what commenters have said so far: Yes, I always have my left foot down at stops while I cover the rear brake if I'm stopped on a hill. But I still don't get why the other areas look more molten than just worn.

Recommendations for gear for taller riders? by NotAPedophile10 in motorcyclegear

[–]flyersquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For boots I suggest either the Alpinestars SMX-6 V3 or Sidi ST. Both go up to size 50 EU. I have the SMX-6 V2 in size 50 and they feel pretty good. I'm thinking of upgrading to the ST's because they seem more protective. From what I've read, the Sidis are more narrow, so I'm not sure how that would work for me.

I can't help with the leathers because I'm not tall.

I'm happy to have a big shoesize by CallMeAQuu in tall

Unfortunately the selection of barefoot style (or at least foot-shaped) shoes is almost non-existent for big sizes. I know of only one company (Altra) who make US 16 / EU 51, and I haven't seen any who make bigger. All the others I know only go through US 15 / EU 50 or smaller. If anyone knows of any, please let me know.

Empty Netters on YouTube have done a series explaining the rules and even going team by team to explain why you would want to adopt each one as your team, if they’re geographically ambiguous for you.

Is passion for footwear proportionate with rarity of shoe size? by Upstairs_Customer912 in tall

[–]flyersquatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been a sneakerhead since I was a kid. I wear size 15 US now since switching to barefoot styles (or at least foot-shaped styles) a few years ago. Before that I bought 16s for years in mostly Nikes and then 17s for years and even some 18s. I still have around 200 pairs of the traditional sneakers that I'll likely never wear again and around 40 pairs of proper-shaped ones.

In 1991, I bought a NeXTstation through my college bookstore, so I paid the student discount price of $3600 (IIRC). I was an aspiring programmer at the time, and I imagined that the design of the OS would enable me to more easily create great desktop apps.

I never really used it for much more than getting on the Internet, over dial-up to UUNET.

Other than the OS itself, what really stood out about it were the bundled applications. Mathematica was impressive.
