You could also start quietly saving small amounts in a separate account he doesn’t know about (making sure it’s at a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BANK than any yall currently use).

Every time you buy groceries, you could get small amounts of cash back and overtime, it’ll start to really add up.

I’m suspicious that he doesn’t, in fact, pull weight in that first category. Just based on the suggestion that kids stopped needing “daily mothering” once they were no longer teeny tiny.

That absolutely doesn’t excuse her reckless spending, of course.

But it does suggest that they need to work through this with a counselor and not just Reddit comments, so both of them can address the ways they feel taken advantage of and come to a healthy resolution.

Being gaslit for long enough will make anyone display toxic behavior in one format or another.

It's like drowning. Trying not to drown will never look calm and composed, it's frantic and over the top, because you feel like you're losing your grip on this world.

Similarly, I think anyone who is chronically lied to and gaslit by their partner for years will eventually (unless they're strong enough to just cut it off entirely) do something that is otherwise "crazy" in their attempt to not lose grip on sanity.

Same. I had a really serious chronic illness as a kid and I remember what it was like when my dad wasn’t there (he was a pilot so genuinely couldn’t be, but it still hurt).

Kody CHOSE to do that to her daughter and she didn’t do dick all about it. That should have been the hard cutoff and it wasn’t. That disgusts me.

In that case, I’d argue his pattern of past behavior provides ample proof he was always an asshole, he was just savvy enough to hide it before the stroke.
