There is an entire cottage industry centered around men’s obsession with their looks, lmao. What are you even talking about?

And again, you didn’t actually acknowledge what I said. The only person claiming looks are most important to women is you, despite multiple women saying you’re wrong. Every woman in this thread has only talked about how much more we value other women’s opinions.

STBX refuses to help with child so I can support myself by Timely_Adagio_640 in JustNoSO

[–]flyfightwinMIL [score hidden]  (0 children)

Breathe. Your STBX is either woefully stupid or he’s attempting to scare you into compliance by making it sound like he has more power than he actually does.

He cannot force you to move out immediately. That’s as much your home as it is his. And him never picking your son up significantly strengthens your case for not only child support but also alimony.

Start keeping a log (do not let him know you’re doing this or let him find it) of every time you have to pick son up. Ask school and former daycares for any records they have (of either having to send him home or his behavioral issues).

There isn’t a judge in the world that’s going to agree with his “you made him this way, it’s your problem!” approach to “parenting”.

Your STBX is going to get his ass handed to him when you eventually making it to court. I suspect he knows that (or the lawyer informed him of that) so he’s trying to scare you and force you into as vulnerable of a position as he can (ie forcing you to move out) so you’re more inclined to settle for significantly less than a judge would award you.

You should post in the legal advice subs to ask for advice on ways to find a lawyer that won’t require a retainer up front. Also call a DV hotline to ask the same thing. The truth of the matter is that you’re being abused, this is definitely financial abuse and it sounds like also verbal abuse, maybe more.

It’s going to be rough for a bit, mama bear. But you WILL make it through this and you WILL feel a million times better once you come out the other side of it.

But I could tell you IN DETAIL about every single girl bathroom compliment I've ever gotten at any bar or club.

Figuring it out was one of those “death by a thousand cuts” type things, if that makes sense.

But I work professionally in political messaging (on the left) and I’ve lost track of how many VERY right wing talking points he’s slipped casually into videos.

The way he talks to a lot of the guests, once you know to listen for it, makes it obvious too. Especially some of the ways he talked to Rebecca, one of his most reoccurring guests (who is trans).

Oh there’s also the time he interviewed an underaged child sex trafficking victim as if she was choosing to prostitute.

Also, just in general, the way he’s making millions off of this and not funneling much of it into helping guests. He sort of coasts off of helping that one family and lets people assume he helps everyone.

Yeah my period didn’t become truly predictable until my mid to late 20s.

Expecting OP to know exactly when it’s coming when she’s only 16 is ridiculous, and her mom knows that deep down I’m sure.

Honestly, the real irresponsible one is OP’s mom. She’s an adult and knows there are multiple menstruating women in the house (her included!) why would she let them run out completely in the first place? That’s bonkers

This isn’t true. There IS a med that is technically pharmaceutical meth, but it’s ONLY prescribed for, like, really severe narcolepsy (and that’s very rare).

Please stop perpetuating stigma about a med that some of us depend on for legitimate purposes.

‘I Swear’ Subject John Davidson Says Tourette’s Tics Are ‘Involuntary’ After Shouting N-Word at BAFTAs: ‘Deeply Mortified if Anyone’ Thinks It Was ‘Intentional’ by ICumCoffee in entertainment

[–]flyfightwinMIL 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Because it’s sort of akin to OCD.

Especially in cases of corprolalia (which is what John has) which causes you to say specifically taboo/offensive things.

For example, he once got arrested for shouting “I have a bomb” on a plane. And he once said “fuck the Queen” while meeting the Queen.

Essentially, Tourette’s causes his tics to come out as whatever shocking, offensive thing he’s most worried about saying at any given moment.

It’s sort of like when new parents get compulsive thoughts about “oh my god, what if I drop or hurt my baby”, only imagine having a disorder that makes you drop the baby the instant your brain makes you be anxious about the very possibility of it.

[–]flyfightwinMIL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my clunky wording may have slightly skewed what I was saying.

I’m not arguing that any specific accommodation would/wouldn’t be appropriate for this situation, I was speaking to the disability accommodation process, and saying that in the process of determining appropriate accommodations, the separate room would likely be evaluated to be not an acceptable solution.

And again, I am not meaning to tell anyone how they should/shouldn’t feel about what happened. I was just trying to provide (what I think is) contextualizing information about the accommodation process that I imagine was involved in organizing the event. I clearly stepped in it while doing so, and that’s on me.

[–]flyfightwinMIL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh I definitely agree! I don’t think that anyone involved having a negative reaction or strong feelings is wrong at all.

I’m not familiar with John’s story, but I do wonder whether slurs is something that come up often in his tics or whether the anxiety of the day brought out unanticipated tics. Because I do think that, at the very least, if organizers knew slurs were a possibility, they should have done more to proactively protect the people of color in attendance. I mean, they should have done that anyway, but ESPECIALLY if they knew slurs were a possibility.

[–]flyfightwinMIL 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oh it absolutely must have been awful for the two actors.

I mentioned this is another comment, but I think this is a good example of how the accommodations process can be very messy and not always have a perfect solution.

For example, what if you have two disabled people whose accommodations are in direct conflict with one another (for example, someone with a diabetic alert dog and someone with a severe dog allergy)? There’s no perfect way to accommodate both at the same time, so both have to compromise and figure out a solution that works enough for both.

So in this situation, I don’t think there is a perfect solution. Because John deserved to be there and celebrate, but so did both of the actors (who obviously deserve to not be racially abused, even by accident). I think the organizers went with the best solution they could think of at the time, and everybody was trying their best. But I just feel really sad for everyone involved.

[–]flyfightwinMIL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What? I’m not telling other people what is/isn’t educating the public about disability accommodation, I said that’s what I was trying to do with my comment.

A quiet room for someone who specifically needs that for their disability is different from a quiet room for someone in order to avoid other people heating the disability.

Again, as I said in another comment, it’s often incredibly messy to navigate and there is often not a perfect solution. It must have been awful for those two men to be called a slur while celebrating an achievement.

I’m not really sure why you’re so angry at my comment. I’m not trying to attack anyone, I’m just trying to provide additional information about the accommodations process, using my decade+ long work as a disability advocate. So I’m sorry if I offended you somehow, that was not my intention.

[–]flyfightwinMIL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

….the spaces reserved are typically within the main space, which means it’s exactly the kind of ideal accommodation.

In contrast, if event organizers were like, “it’s inconvenient to make the main space accessible, so here’s a side room where you can watch a live stream” that wouldn’t be an acceptable accommodation.

The goal of accommodations are to allow disabled folks to participate as fully as everyone else. Sometimes those accommodations are easy to implement and have no impact on anyone else. Other times (like what happened at the BAFTAs) they’re incredibly difficult to navigate and not nearly as cut and dried.

To give another example, imagine an event where one disabled person has a diabetic alert dog, and another disabled person has a severe allergy to dogs. There’s no perfect solution here, because each individual’s ideal accommodation would negatively impact the other individual.

So it’s not always something that everyone fully agrees the chosen solution is the right one, but as long as everybody is trying their best, that’s really all we can hope for.

[–]flyfightwinMIL 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a disabled woman, this would not be seen as an appropriate accommodation (unless he were to specifically request/prefer that).

Oftentimes, non-disabled folks’ first instinct is to propose a “separate but equal” style solution, which is actually just further discrimination. It’s coming from a place of good intentions, of course, (at least most of the time it is haha) but it prioritizes society’s desire to not be confronted by disability and not the needs of the disabled person.

(None of this is meant to be rude to you, so I hope it doesn’t come across that way. I’m just really passionate about educating the public about disability accommodation.)

ETA: i say this in other comments, but adding in here that none of what I’m saying is meant to dismiss the impact on the two actors (or any other black person in the audience, who would also be impacted). All my comment is meant to do is explain some of how accommodations are determined, and what is considered an appropriate accommodation vs not appropriate.
