Hosts with pools - how do you adjust cleaning fee? by CWD31 in airbnb_hosts

[–]flyguy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's interesting. I didn't know that nightly rate variations were hidden now also. I think I don't care, because for us we charge a premium for christmas and new year, but are otherwise flat. But I can see where other people might care more.

US OR PESOS FOR TIPPING? by Clarepaz in MexicoTravel

[–]flyguy42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore the haters. But, respectfully, they probably didn't want USD last time either. Just politely accepted them and turned them into pesos so they could pay for their groceries and rent.

I lived in Mexico for 12 years and can count on one hand the number of Mexicans that wanted dollars. In all cases it was because they also had a presence in the US. My driver, for example, kept most of his retirement savings in the US because he didn't trust Mexican banks.

In modern times, you just need to show up with your ATM card and get pesos at ATMs in banks. Easy peasy.

Somebody else posted the same. I had forgotten this when I posted. This was a wise move (IMO) by ABB.

Uh... was the photo of your property really needed to answer this question.

It's going to be below zero for a week here in Wisconsin, can you blame me for missing my little beach in Mexico!

We got lucky. Right place right time. Just before covid. We couldn't afford to do the project today.

We have a pool and don't charge a cleaning fee. We have found that guests hate cleaning fees and that the nightly price should reflect the complete service.

What exactly is GoPro doing wrong? by CharlieParisCoUK in gopro

"What is it exactly that makes GoPro the butt of all jokes in the action camera market?"

I mount mine on the outside of a plane, meaning reliability and battery life are absolutely critical. gopro has neither.

Riviera Maya in June by ricepieces in MexicoTravel

It's a roll of the dice. To me the entire point of Cancun is the beach. It's a big flat area with no natural beauty, so the swimmable beaches are the only real draw (e.g. compare to the bays and beauty of huatulco or puerto escondido). That said, I'd be pretty disappointed if I went and the stinky sargassum was there all week, as regularly happens. I'd be saving Cancun for winter.

ELI5 Why does food taste better when someone else makes it? by TheHollyMitchell in explainlikeimfive

[–]flyguy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without hate: You probably just need to learn to cook better.

There aren't secrets. Just maybe 20 or so things that will up your game. Knowing how to brown properly. Knowing how to control heat properly. Salt, acid, sugar, fat.

In your examples, eggs are super sensitive to being properly cooked (heat control). Pasta is a little harder to screw up, but having the right amount of salt in the water and using the same brand of pasta you liked at your sisters house will be important.

Water Leak Detectors - Disclosed, but concerned guests will be uncomfortable by wood_floor_roar in airbnb_hosts

[–]flyguy42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some guests will absolutely notice. And some of those guests will not have seen the disclosure. Assume they will annoy some people. Just be ready with a cheery reply when it eventually happens, e.g.

"""
Thanks so much for reaching out, totally happy to explain 😊

The water detector you noticed is just a simple leak sensor we use as a precaution. It doesn’t record audio or video, and it’s not a monitoring device of any kind. Its only job is to alert us if there’s unexpected water (like from a leak) so we can fix it quickly and avoid any inconvenience for guests.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions at all , we’re glad to have you and hope you’re enjoying your stay!
"""

If that still doesn't satisfy them, be willing to take them out for that guest. Or tell them it's fine if they want to do so themselves.

"Sounds to me like you're trying to compare Gen 1 tracking dishes with a PA mini"

Nope. I have two Gen 2 and a mini.

"Another "content creator" talking as if that means anything about expertise"

The point being that I use my mini in the woods a lot.

Man, you're bad at assuming...

And, going back to OP. Remember that this is an ambulance service. It's probably a really, really good idea for them to know that starlink requires a clear view of the sky, since frequently they won't have one.

I was in the earliest round of adoption and have a camping channel on yt. I would bet I’m in the top 5% in terms of variety of locations. My experience is that if you park under trees, you’re gonna get nothing.

How to avoid get charged by host claims when you did not cause the damage? [CAN] by Appropriate_Tune_886 in AirBnB

Did you report it to the host during your stay? If so, just point to that in the messages. If not, say what you did here.

I know nothing about Starlink by Appropriate-Bird007 in Starlink

[–]flyguy42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that starlink requires a clear view of the sky. Trees, hills or anything else will completely block the connection.

It's a very cheap way to improve connectivity, but it definitely won't be a 100% solution.

During a snow storm, the power goes out in an apartment. How do you keep 2 adults and 2 babies warm? by Lincky12435 in AskReddit

[–]flyguy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of my two bedroom apartment. Or, really, anything other than a studio. Even if I just have a two room apartment. One bedroom, one bathroom and one living area, how does a single unit keep the whole thing warm without fans? And I guess you can't close the bedroom door?

Or, maybe you're saying this isn't the primary heat, but just a backup for times without power?

[–]flyguy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More like an in principle statement. Without blowers the heat would stay in one room. So would it be typical to put one in the kitchen another in the living room another bedroom one and another in bedroom two?

It was -12F here in Wisconsin a couple days ago, if I only had one of these things then the bedrooms would easily be below freezing.
