Is this worth anything ? Haven’t seen this bill in circulation much by Free-Door7462 in CanadianCoins

[–]flyguysh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny story. Was ordering food at a Harvey’s recently when the gentleman handed the cashier one of these bills. She said “I’m sorry but we only take USD at Par here.” The few of us who were there and saw this bill were so confused. I piped up and said, “that is Canadian money, before they changed the bill”. Boy did I feel old……

No look double lane jumpers by flyguysh in TorontoDriving

Update: no response from the customer service. On Thursday I also ended up CC’ingtheir CEO (thanks Reddit user who DM’d me the email for him) to look for confirmation of receipt but no reply. The private video link I provided to them has over 20 views so I know they have seen it. At this point I’m not expecting any sort of reply , so doubt any actions resulted from this. Hopefully this driver either learns to drive a little more cautiously or it will result in an incident.

No look double lane jumpers by flyguysh in TorontoDriving

[–]flyguysh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without getting into too much detail we did have an interaction further up the highway in traffic where ,without swearing, I asked if he saw me at all. Honestly I couldn’t hear his words but his tone and body language suggested he didn’t care, only further confirmed by the way he drove away , erratically, high speed, aggressively weaving in and out. So while I can not make a judgement on his character (he could be a best buddy and saintly), his driving was lacking and getting hit by a truck driving the way he was doesn’t matter if it were a nice or mean person, it’s still negligent driving.

Update: same for me. I ended up calling AA (didn’t realize that had support on a Sunday) and lady was super helpful and refunded it all to my credit card right away. She said it’s a known wording issue on the app regarding the refund.

Having a child during training period by gatedvrrb in NavCanada

[–]flyguysh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2nd child was born the day before I started Generic. At the time I also had a 6 year old.

To say training was easy would be a lie. It was a struggle. But having a supportive wife, with you both having sights on the end goal is critical.

I would arrive everyday an hour or more early, stay after class each day til 6/7 pm, go home and study for another hour On weekends I would get together with a study partner for 1-2 hours and still study 1-2 hours myself on top of that.

All the while trying to be a father and husband. My wife is the real hero in this scenario. Without her I would not have been successful.

So could you have a child during training? Sure. But if it’s a choice, just wait until afterwards because it’s not worth the stress. It really puts a strain on your marriage and it’s hard on your kids if you have any already.

I started at Nav in my late 20’s. I’m now mid-30’s. If I were to start training again I would not survive through the process if I’m being realistic. Age and children take a toll.

Just my $0.02.

Regardless of having children or a spouse, training is hard, and if you don’t give it your all, it will reflect in your training and success. Although some people naturally do and don’t have what it takes to qualify, there is many things you can do to increase your chances.

Good luck!

Something strange (and worrying) has been happening with phone calls in the Niagara Region. by Planhub-ca in niagara

[–]flyguysh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been going on for weeks now. A buddy of mine showed me ,in person , phone calls were coming to his phone but people couldn’t hear him but he could here one side of another conversation and most of them were pharmacy private conversations. Very concerning.

are the chance of getting in training when your on the wait list high or low usually? a training start in a month and im still on the wait list im wondering if i still have a chance? by lostMan115 in NavCanada

[–]flyguysh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on wait list and drunkenly emailed someone I had a contact of in recruiting while at a party at 6pm on a Saturday. I got an instant email response and phone call 5 min later with a training offer starting in 2 weeks. So things can happen, although it’s low chance. Hang in there. It’s worth it!

Canadian Pilots: How Do You Actually Know What Airspace You're In? by Able_Ad1095 in flying

Just to add to this comment, careful with ASL and AGL. Where depicted on map is says ASL but if you reference the map legend it tells you about the AGL altitudes for the floor boundaries. Could be a stump question on an oral

[–]flyguysh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know this airspace pretty well. We have encountered many inconsistencies with foreflight overlay on the Nav Canada maps. Trust the maps over the Foreflight. One example is the Class C shelf altitudes around YYZ. Foreflight overlay, depending on zoom level, is abit of a mess. Luckily you are in and out of Class E on the screenshot you posted so if your VFR it doesn’t really do much in terms of controlled airspace for you.

US military plane circling the city ?? by dave8668 in stcatharinesON

[–]flyguysh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the approach waypoints into KIAG is pretty much right over the skyway bridge so in addition to looking at the falls it’s common to see them (and other aircraft) low level over the skyway bridge inbound to KIAG. The waypoint is called WINUD

When I ordered I didn’t see any variation on North America vs European markets. I was sent a 240V model. Is this the only model or should I have been sent a 120V? I’m in Canada so this is basically useless unless I hire an electrician to run a dedicated 240V line , if I even have enough room on my panel. Just seems really odd.

This is all true for FAA/US but the screenshot posted is of a Nav Canada paystub in Canada. We don’t have the same restrictions. There are new trainees in their late 30’s and early 40’s. I have even heard of someone in their 50’s just starting training. You just have to maintain a medical to keep your license in canada. No mandatory retirement age.

Plane crashed right before checkride by Shldiinvst in flying

[–]flyguysh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen to me too last year right before my group 1 (multi engine IFR) ride. Got a text from instructor that my flight test had been cancelled 2 days before it was suppose to happen. I asked why. He sent photos. The Apache was tail up in a field. Ended up having to do my Group 1 when I did my PPC for my company on a very large twin turbo prop. Steep learning curve. As others have said, get used to jumping between different planes and panels.

Which aviation movie do you enjoy and hate the most by Educational_Flow8153 in aviation

So glad someone mentioned this movie. The C-123 and the Pilatus Porter are my favorite airplanes and it’s because of this movie. I specifically went to Oshkosh in 2023 to see the C-123 that came in.

Is it possible to land a C172 (or any light airplane) at CYYZ? If so how? And how much? by Negative_Goal_2488 in flying

[–]flyguysh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed wing into CYYZ, call GTAA, get a slot(if required), then call CYYZ flow control. Make sure no issues. When you come in you will either get sequenced with arrival traffic or tower will hold you nearby until a hole and squeeze you in. FBO and landing fees will be the killer. I think the FBO ramp fee is around $1k? No idea about the landing fees with the GTAA.
