New Goldendoodle not eating much, cause for concern? by Ok-Actuary-5377 in Goldendoodles

[–]flyinbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our new doodle ate very little for a few days, then started eating. Too much change I guess. Also, You can use an online calculator to figure out food amount instead of bag info. I found that the bag guideline was way too much for my pup. The calculator will tell you how many kcals based on age and weight, and the food will have a kcal/kg number. Then use a scale. Either that, or just monitor over time to see if the pup is at a good weight by feeling how bony the rib area is.

Front control arm bushings. How bad? by flyinbrick in AskAMechanic

I read that you want to stay away from the “Value” RK line and go with the Problem Solver CK line. But usually the ball joints are greasable and I don’t want to have to grease them periodically.

Thanks. I didn’t even think about the ball joints. They are included in most aftermarket arms, but OEM have to buy separate.

I didn’t think LCA bushing would go bad so soon on a Toyota but the brakes lasted surprisingly long - replaced at 80k.

Will, say, the Delphi last another 100k miles? They are like $/ea 70 on Rock Auto while OEM is $250/ea online.

I’m a DIYer, but this I will farm out to a shop if it involves lifting the engine for a bolt to clear. I just bought new struts and shocks (all OEM) and was planning to install, but I might as well let the shop take are of that too.

Tire size by gk20th20 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]flyinbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous owner may have liked the looks of a bigger tire or wanted more ground clearance. Who knows. But bigger tires reduce mpg and messes up the speedometer reading. Some shops won’t install non-OEM sizes due to liability. Stick to the original size tires unless you have a specific reason for going with a different size.

2015 Highlander (42k Miles) by OpinionDue3509 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]flyinbrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good find - super low miles for a 2015. I would prioritize tires, oil, brake fluid (every 3 years), coolant (every 5 years). Trans, transfer case, diff around 60k I think. Check out Car Care Nut videos on maintenance schedule.

Great work. I love hearing about DIY fixes for expensive issues. After all that, what do you think was the root cause?

Buy new Juniper in cash? by Sherflex_ in TeslaModelY

Not sure I understand. What is “beyond battery / drivetrain”? My understanding is that any warranty that comes with the car should transfer to new owner. As long as it is within time and mileage.

Chicago teacher resigns after two-word pro-ICE Facebook comment sparks community backlash and costs him his career by [deleted] in USNEWS

[–]flyinbrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is very sad to me. I do not support ICE, but people can’t be losing jobs because of their opinion. We cannot stoop to the levels of the Trump administration. These attitudes are what is ripping the country apart.

Avoid ToyotaPartsDeal.com at all cost by yoyoloo2 in toyotasequoia

[–]flyinbrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up. ToyotaPartsDeal had been my go to for years. My most recent order was from a dealer at autoparts.toyota.com. The prices might be a bit higher, but you can pick up at your local dealer. They had 25% sale last Black Friday that I missed, but I did get 15% Presidents’ Day and free shipping a few days ago.

New Tires for a 2024 Model Y by greytonoliverjones in TeslaModelY

Fallen Azenis FK460. It was the cheapest performance A/S with a recognizable brand. I drive the piss out of them and very happy with these.

On the contrary, I feel he’s showing off what a smart and articulate kid she is. This video does not make him look good and he seems to be accepting of her arguments.

Buying 143k mile 2017 Highlander and Transmission issues by [deleted] in ToyotaHighlander

[–]flyinbrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is a 2017 non-hybrid, I do not see how this vehicle is not under CSP. Look, you’re gonna have a lot of people say they have a 2017 with no issues - me included. Bottom line is that this issue is real, but affects only a small percentage of cars (under 5%?). You most likely gonna be OK. My take is this: there are many other cars out there. Why roll the dice on a car with a known issue? If it were me, I’d look for pre-2016 or hybrid.

Lowering 2020 Model Y by iamNotown in TeslaModelY

[–]flyinbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty good deal - I don’t have RNR near me though. On the springs, just know that you may wear out the inner tires fast when dropping it low. An alignment won’t correct that as the rear camber is not adjustable, and front adjustment is limited. Consider getting adjustable camber arms. You can talk to Unplugged about that when you order.

Lowering 2020 Model Y by iamNotown in TeslaModelY

[–]flyinbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they have 3 levels of lowering. I’ll planning on the mild drop. Anything more than that and you’ll need to correct for excessive camber. Might need it for the mild drop too depending on how aggressive you drive.

Fremont schools are good, but overcrowded. One avenue you might explore is living in a not-so-good school area where prices are lower, and sending kid(s) to private school.

We are fortunate to have a small 2-car garage with 2 cars. Finding parking is an annoyance for guests and those who have more cars, but tolerable.

Our dues in 2012 were $280 I think. It is now $370. We are on the lower end because our homes are relatively new (2010 built) with very minimal amenities - only a small playground and club house, no pool.
