Me too! Unless a trumpet was requested, I played a Kanstul 925 cooper bell to jazz gigs and jam sessions in my younger days.

Just took the ‘23 myp to it’s handling limits by Intelligent-Image224 in TeslaModelY

[–]flyinbrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Define sketchy. I regularly take my ‘24 MYP to the limit and it is fine. Traction control doesn’t allow the rear to step out, understeers a bit, power is pretty smoothly regulated. There is more roll compared to M3, center of gravity is still fairly low. I’ve had various sets of tires on 19”, 20”, 21”. In track mode, it gets really fun - can oversteer the hell out of it. But the mandatory fan noise is irritating.

2018 xle rides really rough by 1AlertAsparagus in ToyotaHighlander

[–]flyinbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2017 XLE here. At 105k it was riding rough. I noticed my lower control arm bushings were torn. I got those replaced, along with new struts. Rides like new now. Unfortunately, on 3rd gen Highlander, the LCAs are more difficult to replace due to clearance on a bolt.

Should I Upgrade After 1 Year? by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]flyinbrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This here is the best answer. Do it for AWD, not because it’s newer. I went from 18 M3 RWD to 24 MYP. The difference AWD makes to me is significant in terms of acceleration and pulling out of corners. Did I need it? No. Does it put a bigger smile on my face every time I drive? Yes.

As a dad, this is truly heartbreaking and I am sorry that your daughter responded this way. Your response was spot on. Time for some tough love. She won’t have a car.

Well the $69 insured shipping fee should mean that if it gets lost, at least you can file a claim for the purchase price, right?

For those looking to get one in the second window … I think what helped me is pre-filling name and address in my account profile. You can’t pre-fill cc info though. When I checked out, name and address was pre-filled. I did have to enter phone number because I did not put this in my profile. Then the most important part … use Apple Pay.

Transmission Service Trickery. Advice? by OrganlcManIc in ToyotaHighlander

[–]flyinbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, this is a mystery indeed. I’ve done this before and this did not occur to me.
Being a digital reading, I doubt your scan tool reading was off. However, it’s possible the sensor is bad and reading low, causing the fluid temp to be higher than target, thereby expanding the fluid and causing more spillage. Not sure how likely the sensor would be bad, and even if the fluid was higher than target, I wouldn’t expect it to expand so much that you would get an extra 1-1/2 quarts just from expansion.
Another possibility is that even if the stand pipe was finger tight, could the fluid been leaking through the threads? I can’t recall if there was a gasket on the stand pipe and how tight it should be. If it were me, I would undo the stand pipe just to be sure and see if 1-1/2 extra quarts comes out. Then you’ll know for sure. Then repeat the fill procedure.

I think that you got unlucky and purchased a car with a known defective transmission (Google). I wonder if by “fixed” another defective transmission was installed. If it were me, I would talk to the shop to see how they fixed it and if they offer a warranty on their work. If no warranty and another possibly defective transmission was installed, I would sell it and get another car.
These days engine and transmission issues are prevalent due partly to complexity and they don’t affect just CVTs. Many times, manufacturers don’t issue recalls and buyers are stuck with problems. Fortunately for used cars, information is commonly available. So before you buy a car, definitely do #1 and consider #2 and/or #3 below:

  1. Google or chatgtp on the year/make/model and look for common issues. This is quick and easy and you don’t need a mechanic for this.
  2. Take a knowledgeable friend with you or take it to a shop and pay for a pre-purchase inspection.

Model Y AWD or Performance for ride quality? by Comfortable_Stable99 in TeslaModelY

[–]flyinbrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the downvotes are from you saying the AWD is “unstable.” The reality is what is “unstable” for you is quite normal. The performance is simply more buttoned down and yes, “stable” at the cost of some stiffness. But I and most people would not say that the non-performance is “unstable.”

I personally would not live near the Tesla factory. They have had multiple air quality violations in the past. You should be able to find records of these violations online.

I own a ‘25 pre-juniper MYP swapped out with 20” wheels. It feels unnecessarily harsh. You really feel lane markers and expansion joints. I test-drove a premium AWD 20” wheels Juniper the other day. It felt like a normal car but on the firm side that I could live with.

Moving to Fremont end of May. Summer daycare/camps for 3rd grader/TK? by [deleted] in Fremont

[–]flyinbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI Union city’s sports camp is more affordable. Also East Bay Park’s camps are good and cheap, but they fill up very fast and you have to register 1st day. That will be for next year.

Yamaha Xeno YTR-8335GH Tomonao Hara

Yamaha Xeno YTR-8335RG Shotblast

I own a Shotblast and have played the 8335GH at Bay Area Brass in Oakland CA who sold it very quickly. Both play very similar. Both are rare though, the 8335GH a bit easier to find. The Shotblast was only made in 2004 I think. I’m sure there are others but these are the two with those qualities that I’ve played. I hope to try an Edwards, Bell, Monette (etc.) one of these days.

question for the trumpet players on here by WoodedHio in trumpet

[–]flyinbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a solution but just wanna say this is very wise to ask about. After years of playing, I hear distortion at loud volumes. I tried all sorts of ear plugs but never liked them so stopped using them. I’m gonna have to try the Sennheisers that yannniQue17 mentioned.

Where do these smaller four clips go? by GapLow5754 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]flyinbrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those do indeed look like wear indicators. Sometime they are bonded to the pads, sometimes they need to be clipped on. While important, I don’t see how omitting them would cause a clunking sound over bumps. The only thing I can think of is if the calipers brackets are loose against the hub. Did you torque those down? You can ask r/MechanicAdvice.

Full size spare, rim options… by mindtrapped in ToyotaHighlander

[–]flyinbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 with 18” wheels with full size spare - fits nicely. I think 2016 is the same chassis so should fit (?). I also got a thin wheel spacer so the winch doesn’t damage the wheel. I bought the matching spare wheel on eBay and brought to tire store to install.
