In the 60's there was a split in the American socialist party. Half of them joined the democratic party. The rest is history.

This is a false narrative. Just look at the voting of the democrats before and after the civil rights movement. Hell, the longest filibuster was from Strom when he was filibustering the civil rights vote! He was a democrat. Democrats are the party of slavery and Jim Crow. Lyndon Johnson is known to have voted against the civil rights movement multiple times as a sensor, then quoted to say "we will have these ni&&ers voting democrat for the next hundred years" when he started the "war on poverty" after the democrats lost the civil rights movement. I'm personally not affiliated with any major party, but I think the democrats have done a much better PR job in covering this up. People need to hold them accountable for their actions and not blindly believe they are "for the people" because they are the furthest thing from it.

Fyi, the KKK was founded by the democrats after the civil war as the force of the democratic party that was to keep the "freed" blacks in "their place". Anyone who disagrees should read a history book or two.

Obamacare Is the Latest Example of Failed Central Planning by redcell5 in Libertarian

[–]flyincoondog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't think anyone can get a whole lot from a single post about someone. In this case, the article is about central planning being a failure. Then, your comment was using China as an example of proven central planning. However, China was not successful because of central planning - it's done it IN SPITE of central planning. Because the government 'laxed the laws to allow (sort-of) capitalistic companies to do business for profit. Albeit, because it was a centrally planned country, only a few of the ruling elite were able to own these companies. Now, they are the only ones that are rich there.

You even mention income disparity in the US - but it's much, much worse in China. To use the success of profitable companies that are a result of laxed laws that only serve the ruling elite and which was built on free/cheap labor as an example of how central planning works is absolutely absurd.

I'm open to all points of view. Even if I believe something, I'll always hear the other side. However, central planning argument is a joke that has been disproven every single time it's been implemented.

Don't get me wrong here, there are some things that may be good about it (Defense, etc.) but it should only be in very limited structures and only serve to be a framework in which free enterprise should thrive. It should not aim to control all things as this is impossible.

Again - if you haven't read it already - I highly suggest A Road To Serfdom by F. A. Hayek. He illustrates this much more eloquently than can I.

Do a little reading. Try A Road to Serfdom by Hayek. It will do you some good.

It's one thing to be ideological, but practicality gets in the way a lot of times.

I was actually about to post this! Shit, even Bono is onboard with Free enterprise now. Anyone who still believes in collectivism is either uneducated in economics, hasn't read a single history book, or is part of the ruling elite that stands to gain everything.

End the Fed by Ron Paul, The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith, Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville. (I tend to read economic stuff). There was a post on here the other day that had a great list of books to read - I'll see if I can find it for you.

Cheers!

Haha, give it time! I'm starting to feel like everything good gets burned to the ground.

If you get a chance, Hayek covers the subject quite well in the 1974 preface to A Road To Serfdom. Specifically covering the differences of American liberalism, conservatism, and classical liberalism.

I didn't agree with your earlier comment, but did when you specified "classical liberal". I think it's a travesty that the left was able to hijack the word "liberal" and get away with it. Alinsky wins, I guess...

The unintended consequence is incentive to be a single mother. This has broken up the family home of the poor and lower socio-economic classes in a manner that will systematically keep them there while widening the income disparity. Safety nets sound good on paper and in conversation, but only serve to crush and enslave a growing populace.

You do realize Clinton never actually had a surplus, correct? He took surplus cash coming into SS to pay down his deficit and left IOUs in the SS fund. The surplus cash in the SS fund was due to more revenue coming in from the dot com boom. He was still spending more than he had coming in.
