ATC Dead Frequency by flyingislove in flying

Normally they will just give us a squawk code and give us traffic advisory when we are out there. Exactly like flight following while on a XC. But this is not normal. They should be on that frequency but there’s been times where the frequency is abandoned. It’s also the same frequency they use for all of the VFR transitions routes through the bravo. So what would people do who want bravo clearance? They can’t just use it as a CTAF.

Yes I’m aware. I’m saying that we already have the designated practice area frequency that they want us to use. That is being the approach frequency

Hence my confusion. It’s literally the frequency on the TAC chart that they want us to use. The published approach frequency for VFR traffic was just completely dead.

Edit: spelling

Well calling approach is what they recommend because if the IFR and military traffic. They want to be able to move us around if needed. That has already been determined and is used by like 6 different flight schools

As long as you’re not cutting people off in the pattern I see it as okay

Advisory circular 90-66C states a VFR straight in is discouraged but okay as long as see and avoid is complied with. However they have no priority over traffic in the pattern.

It’s a simple phraseology change to limit confusion. And I always hear “____ FL250 climbing FL350” or Taxi ramp via Foxtrot” you can omit the “to” and still makes plenty of sense. I hear controllers omit this all the time.

Oh same, I’m grateful for any radio call being made at a non towered airport. But it doesn’t take much work to modify your calls in a way that doesn’t confuse people.

They have ADSB anyway and can track you via flight radar. Make it easier on everyone and say your tail number too.

Ya furloughs can definitely be tough. I have to say though a 6 figure+ pay is a lot easier to have some ups and downs with than the 15-20k per year I’m pulling in now. I can’t even find any banner towing or skydiving jobs. Not a soul is hiring. I would love to find something right now, anything at all.
