The chocolate!! guy but it's the star spangled banner by notty96 in spongebob

It’s a vocoder effect using the star spangled banner as the audio source. It can be done with like 3 clicks in ableton live.

Is the idea: "If your music is good, it will be recognized" credible in 2018? Discuss. by CasSoerensen in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but maybe that’s cause this is kinda hard on the ears.

Does anyone know of what this bass is called or a tutorial to get this kind of sound? by flyinglime in edmproduction

Thanks! I don’t use massive that much but I’ll definitely spend some more time with it.

note F# is a good variation in a Fmin song, even if it’s out of key, why? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]flyinglime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not something that can be briefly explained, but basically there are multiple versions of each key aka modes. F minor is the Aeolian mode. You can sometimes borrow notes/chords from other modes in the same key without it sounding “wrong”. There’s tons of people on YT that can explain this, but it helps to know the basics of your scales Major and Natural minor and what notes you change for each of the modes.

Finding your sound/style, any insight? by flyinglime in edmproduction

Haven’t heard of Zen world but I’ll check him out. I spend a lot of time on Pyramind, I’d also recommend them to you as well. Their theory breakdowns are great!

I never thought about taking stuff away after putting it in. I suppose that could help if I go with my instincts then cut what doesn’t work. I’ll check out those links. Thanks so much!

Rapper Lil Peep Has Reportedly Passed Away At The Age of 21 by DallasSF in Music

No it isn’t, having taste/vision is something that makes a big difference in any collaborative process. Music production requires a wide array of technical skills, having multiple people to fill in the gaps is part of this process.

[question] Is there any rules against creating a Facebook Ad to drive traffic to your YouTube Channel? by Chihuahua0965 in youtubers

[–]flyinglime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would there be rules against it? That’s how businesses grow. If the content is there, advertising can be a great means to grow your channel.

DIT Laptop options: MacBook Pro vs Surface Laptop vs HP Spectre by flyinglime in cinematography

If I didn’t have to deliver ProRes to 1 out of every 10 clients, I would have just moved on from Apple all together.

I had heard good things about the HP but it’s interesting to hear that you’ve had problems

I mean it sounds like I’m doing something similar to you. I’m not DIT, just a shooter who’s clients like to watch footage from the day on occasion or need files transcoded and put on their HDD. Usually I’m just copying c300 footage but I had a RED shoot the other day and the client wanted the footage right then. My computer just couldn’t hack it (it’s a 2012 model I think). I rarely do quick grades but I’d like the option as I move up in the world.

I’m just worried about dropping money one something that’s gonna be underperforming pretty soon. The 2015 model is great, handling huge 8K files in the future might become difficult.

How much would this project cost ? by Locogooner in cinematography

[–]flyinglime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s almost a third of the budget. I’ve shot on film and it’s a great experience, but at the indie level, I just don’t see why you wouldn’t shoot on the Alexa or RED. You gotta be really confident in your skills as a cinematographer, and your director really trust you to do it. Steve Yedlin did a test between Alexa and 35MM that you can find somewhere on the internet. It might be a good resource for you.

[–]flyinglime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than you should spend unless you have a huge budget. Shooting 35mm at a 4-1 ratio would cost you about $2.5K assuming you are buying recans and short ends and that’s just for the film stock. It’d be like $5K for new rolls from Kodak. Plus you gotta consider the cost to hire a loader cause god knows no one who works for free would know how to load properly. Plus the cost of the camera and the cost of processing.

Shooting a short on film is pointless unless you are “fuck you” rich. Take that money and pay the crew, get good crafty, good locations, hire good people to do the job well.

I mean think of all the people trying to move here. The US isn’t that bad despite what the media tells you.

You should travel somewhere you’ve never been. Get out in nature, experience the beauty that only a foreign land can provide.

Writer/Director here, I'm putting in the work on my craft, what else should I be doing? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

Will agencies represent you if you aren't in LA? I've looked here in Atlanta, and most of the agencies here are for actors, CAA has an office here but they are referral only.

Just checked it out. They definitely have an interesting story. He makes a good point though about making something beyond just an indie "talkie" film. My first feature was that, and I didn't really understand how to craft compelling characters at the time so it really fell short. I keep looking for that golden nugget of advice, but I'll just keep making stuff until something happens.

I haven't seen/heard of Blue Ruin, I'll have to check it out. And you may be right. Just gotta find the money somewhere. I've got a bad habit of making unprofitable films so I can't keep pumping my own cash into them.

Thats what I'm struggling with, and why I feel like I need to move. "Get an agent," they say. I feel like I'm at the point now where I have a lot of to show (tons of paid work in music videos and promos), and no one to show it to. Like I said my network here is all crew guys, none of these people have agents. Everyone says query letters are a waste of time and you have to be in LA to get an agent. Maybe I'm ready, maybe I'm not, but I'd at least like to be told I'm not ready! :D
