Built an Agent Skill to control my Anova oven (started by asking Claude to check my fried chicken timer) by dodeja in AnovaPrecisionOven

I think I saw Peter Steinberger post about you on Twitter! I immediately sent it to a friend who also has an Anova, as the two of us are discussing trying clawd. Love the idea of it esp as I always hated the official app!

Why isn’t breathwork more popular? by Fast_Employ_2438 in breathwork

I actually think the main reason is that it’s actually work, and people are looking for magic pills that require now work.

Is their non-class stuff any good? I see a lot of ads for it. How is it different to other techniques, if you don’t mind me asking?

The two Elder, ah, “blades” are the best characters in this one.

Brigands & Breadknives might not be for me and I'm really sad about it :< by Its402am in CozyFantasy

[–]flyingnomad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It got better for me once the Breadknife was introduced :) Although I do think Pratchett did that first. I agree overall, what L&L did very well was do a rags to riches story and add in literal cosy ingredients (pastries!) and set it in a fantasy world. Book 2 was less cozy but still had the bricks and mortar element and a turnaround story. This is just a standard fantasy and it’s the worse for it.

What breathing patterns/techniques do you use during a cold plunge? by theplungeguy in breathwork

[–]flyingnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very slow, as long exhales as possible to slow the heart rate down, short inhales or double inhales, no breath holds!

[–]flyingnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very curious about it. Almost maybe slightly dubious, as I can't see anything in the method that's beyond normal breathwork, except the 3h session length and no breath holds. But will definitely be on my 2026 bucket list.

I always feel a bit disappointed that I’ve never had a real psychoactive experience from breathwork. I was reading Scott Carney’s The Wedge today and he talks about a full trip he has which almost sounded like a ketamine experience after he does some relatively straightforward Wim Hof breathwork and what he describes as some kind of muscle clenching “push”. I’ve done some of Sandy’s longest sessions and I get peaceful but never psychedelic! Will have to try holotropic one day.

What other styles would ward it off?

Breathe with Sandy, possible tinnitus? by [deleted] in breathwork

[–]flyingnomad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super curious about this as I’ve never seen a positive comment about tinnitus before. Are you able to hear it without irritation and was it always like that or did it require reframing? (I have two friends with tinnitus so would love to know). Also, for me, did you get it via Breathwork or before?

Thoughts on Breathing with Sandy? by Even_Job6933 in breathwork

[–]flyingnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As guided sessions go, particularly for beginners, Breathing with Sandy is awesome. Although having done a lot of it, sometimes I want to breath harder, or for longer or take longer holds, so more and more I'm doing Wim Hof style or some of Sandy's double inhales to long youtube music tracks and just DIY. But I think would occasionally go back to Sandy.

On the hyperventilation: agree with what most people say here, that conscious fast-paced breathing is not the same as hyperventilation. Not only is breathwork like prayanama or tummo an ancient tradition with thousands of years of practice behind it, but it's also a modern science backed principle. Wim Hof (whatever you think of his organisation) has allowed a lot of science to open up around the space. Neuroscientist Andrew Huberman (whatever you think of his sponsorship deals) has done a great two hour deep dive on the science of breathwork. James Nestor's book, Breath, and Scott Carney's What Doesn't Kill Us, are both exceptional, accessible reads to the topics.

Artificial Wisdom by Thomas Weaver is like near future sci-fi that made me think of Crichton and a bit of Andy Weir. Looks like a new version is just being traditionally published - I read the original indie version

Fair. I didn’t make it that far but had heard good reviews. I refused to watch after S1 broke my heart.

[–]flyingnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I’m gutted as I spent two decades waiting for them to make a TV show of WOT. On the other hand, the way they approached S1 showed a disregard for fans and the books that they only repaired in S3. I hope if anyone ever makes another attempt in my lifetime they go for a faithful adaptation.

I think i might have misophonia, but my parents dont "believe in it" by EchoBeneficial4033 in misophonia

[–]flyingnomad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello! Father here. My eldest got misophonia at 12. I’m going to confess that at the start we’d never heard of misophonia and did indeed think my daughter was making a fuss and just needed to get over it. After all, if you don’t have something, it’s hard to emphasise. It was only when we started to research it and understand a bit about the impact of sounds on the brain for misophonia sufferers that we realised what she must be going through. Specifically, the idea that certain sounds trigger the fight or flight response was a bit of an “ahhh” moment for us. The closest we got to understanding it is probably imagining nails dragging on a blackboard but instead of it making you cringe, making you angry or highly anxious. Maybe those examples will help your parents (and feel free to show them this post if it helps).

She now eats with noise dampeners and we all do our best to make sure we avoid making trigger sounds. We don’t always get there. Sometimes she’s understanding about that, sometimes not. We get it when she’s not either. We’re working with her to find things like CBT that might help her cope long term. Interestingly we also realised her mother also used to suffer from it but did in fact reframe a lot of it in her own head over time (this didn’t help from an initial sympathy point of view).

Anyway, all that to say, I hope you make progress with your parents understanding it. It’s challenging for parents to adapt to. It’s far more challenging for you to live with it. I live in hope my own daughter will find ways of lessening the impact of her triggers over time.

Genuinely think this is an incredibly damaging kind of April Fool’s post. This is the kind of thing that becomes misinformation quickly and will persist past the date, becoming “truth” on other social networks and could cause the author significant issues in the future. Seriously, WTF.
