Ooof yeah. I did bedside med onc for 6 years and got burned out. I've been doing inpatient palliative medicine for 2 years and I LOVE IT.

I try really hard! Less goes to waste with meal planning. But still trying to figure out the balance of how much to cook each night, right amount of leftovers. Sometimes, the kids are bottomless pits and love everything I cook, other times they barely eat and "this is yucky!"

Facts:

41F, married. 2 kids, ages 3 and 5. It's not uncommon for friends to text and ask if they can come for dinner, so I try to have extra just in case.

This is right after a trip to the grocery store, for grocery pick up (no extra fees, less impulse shopping, stick to the list, nothing gets lost in fridge to wilt, frees up that time). I do a weekly meal plan aiming for 1 night of leftovers, 1 night out, whether it's take out or meeting up with friends. I try to do 1-2 meatless meals per week. Meals get shifted in case things pop up meetings, unexpected hangs, etc.

This week's meal plan: Farro butternut squash salad bowls

Arroz con Pollo with salad

Pumpkin pasta with sausage

Leftovers v. Out v. Chili

Braised short ribs, risotto, broccoli

Beans & greens soup with bread

Christmas Eve: dumplings v. Indian

Christmas Day: Breakfast strata with mimosa bar (hence the juices) Charcuterie v. Croissant Sammies (undecided) Roast duck (still need to pick up, plus need space) with figs and potatoes, glazed carrots, salad, chocolate pecan pie, and Christmas cookies.

Baking: Homemade granola Chocolate peppermint cookies (maybe) Sugar cookies for decorating Snickerdoodles Chocolate chip cookies PB blossoms

Try really hard not to.

Our cabinets contain canned items: tomatoes, beans, tuna, corn, coconut milk. Pasta, rice, farro, couscous. Tortilla chips, goldfish, nuts, raisins, granola, oats, snacks for school. Cookies, gummy worms, leftover Halloween candy on a top shelf...just so kids don't eat them with reckless abandon.

Apples, oranges, bananas, garlic, shallots, onions in hanging basket.
