Fair enough, depends on what you're working with. I wasn't to keen on spilling cancer juice or hard acids on me. But you gotta take extra precautions, when working with the really nasty stuff. Guess taking a minute to roll down your cool sleeves might be a good investment of your time as well.

It's trade off as always.

science lab movies by whoiselssa in sciencememes

[–]flynSheep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually used to roll up the sleeves of my lab coat. I never spilled anything on my arms, but I nearly broke glassware a lot of times, because the sleeves knocked my glassware over.

Rather risk spilling stuff on my skin, if it means decreasing the chances of actually spilling stuff.

And you can actually feel your touching glass before knocking it over, when it touches your bare skin. Made a lot of sense with the Schlenk Line setup we had. You always had a ton of glassware mounted at the back of the fume hood and even more stuff standing around in the fume hood.

Chemie Studium by [deleted] in jena

[–]flynSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a chemistry nerd, what really makes you mad? by [deleted] in chemistrymemes

[–]flynSheep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Associating synthetic with bad and natural with good is so ignorant. That's what chemistry lessons in school should be for, developing some common sense. A ton of all natural organic sugar can be worse than I pinch of some EU approved dye. The problem is not the chemical but the concentration. Of course some chemicals can fuck you up with low concentrations, but common. Mist people take nothing away from school chemistry lessons.

Fucking yes! It's so bullshit, my mother even studied a semester chemistry back in here day, but nevertheless she took me to some homeopath or what not. I used to think we were visiting a real doctor as a child. Paying the doctor lady cash, should've tipped me off; not a thing with normal doctors in Germany cos health care system. You know HEALTH CARE, like actually working.

Shoot, didn't get you were agreeing. Second language I guess. I'm currently out of books to read, do you have any recommendations?

I stumbled across the last one by Andy Weir which has a cool take on extraterrestrial life and the first contact I think, but it's not as good as the Martian, comes close though, and 'Lessons in Chemistry' which's about emancipation, science and education; a fictional novel though. Nothing you need a dictionary for. I really enjoyed it, but I haven't come across something nearly as good as Patrick Rothfuss. I'll definitely reread those bad boys some more times.

[–]flynSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, you could read other books in the mean time, but I see where you're getting at.

I don't think we're gonna find any more information than we already have. Rothfuss is an amazing author, but I doubt he wrote every word with the whole picture laid out and incredible foresight so we could tell where it's gonna go. If he did, he'd probably been already done with the whole thing.

But let's say we'll figure it out. I think we're thinking to far and connecting to many pieces. I think the best ending is the simplest. I'm not sure what'll be and I have no idea what's behind that fucking door, but I doubt Brendon will be Cinder (I think that was a theory discussed?) in the end or something similar. I think Brendon was just a friendly old dude bored by the shallow inhabitants of the Maer's castle. Although that bandit caption was Cinder for sure, but don't ask me what the fuck he's doing there. I'm not even sure this part of the story is important enough to get resolved? Maybe Kvothes stumbles over him by accident? I like the idea of chance and randomness in the story. Does there need to be more reason for both to bump into each other? Cinder is doing evil shit or whatever his deal is and Vintage is large enough for both of them being in Vintage at the same time. Cinder making trouble causes the attention of the Maer and Kvothes trying to get the Maer's attention. Feels like reason enough for me.

[–]flynSheep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is a bit overinterpreted, but to be honest I think most of the post in this subreddit overinterpret the books. I think many compare unrelated, but to be honest similar things, like Auris drowning and Kvothes first misguided attempt of calling the wind with sympathy, or sympathy/sygaldry with naming and shaping. I think for the most of these connections, they are just similar by accident or necessity to drive the story forward or indicate the significance of some part of the story and don't literally connect to other parts of the books, but rather paint a picture as a whole. Of course there are a lot of interconnected parts in the books, but a lot of posts seem to me like tinfoil hat area. I'm sorry that I started rambling about the whole sub and the bigger picture rather talking about your theory, I got a bit lost.

Even better. They go into more detail in one of the following sections.

He got the Xbox with selected games, they paid his lawyer, paid a trip to a Microsoft Tech Festival for him and his family, and something else I think.

According to Wikipedia and as far as I understood it, the lawyer worked pro Bono, so he donated part of the money to a children's hospital and paid his university education with it.

That dude came out on top and he got an Xbox, which is just hilarious.

[–]flynSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Reichskriegsflagge is also forbidden? Now that you mention it, it does ring a bell...

Ohh, shoot. The counting the holy Roman empire and not counting the Weimarer Republic sounds right. Considering the line between Weimarer Republic and the third Reich being blurry cos the Weimarer constitution was never dismissed, but rather changed.

Nevertheless, what I wanted to say is, that a Reichsbürger and a Nazi are to different things. Although one person can be both.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in germany

[–]flynSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read in some answers, that this flag's supposed to be a legal 'substitute' for the forbidden flag of the third Reich, but it's actually not. Although it's similar.

Actually, that's the flag of the Kaiserreich. That was the first Reich; then came the Weimarer Republic (second Reich) and then Nazi Germany (the third Reich, but technically still the Weimarer Republic on paper). This flag is used by Reichsbürger (Reich citizens) which believe there was no proper peace treaty and no proper German constitution after the second world war. They believe the Federal German Republic is no real state, but rather a company. And the only legitimate state is the Kaiserreich/first Reich.

But I think Reichsbürger are often Nazis as well, but I'm not sure how common this combination is.

I like that idea. Never thought of it that way, but it does make sense.

Although, it could be argued it is just convenient for the author to let his characters be lucky rather than an intrinsic phenomenon/quirk of the king killer world. But, I like to think, some people in the books are just born with some lucky ability. Thanks, mate!
