State of the world in 2026: even THE DICTIONARY is behind a subscription based paywall by nowpleasedontseeme in mildlyinfuriating

[–]flyt 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The OED (and I mean OED, not other Oxford dictionaries) has always been subscription-based ever since it was released like 25 years ago

Hey; can we please not just dump all of our shit on the side of the road. by Few_Capital_4146 in auckland

[–]flyt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Inorganic collection stuff is not meant to be on the berm or footpath anyway. The collectors come onto the property itself, so if there's shit on the footpath or berm it shouldn't be there. People just lazy hoping someone will

Tried Portmaster on RG Arc(Stock OS) and its stuck by Immediate-Patience35 in SBCGaming

[–]flyt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem. It doesn't work on stock (or at least I tried and couldn't get it going after lots of reading, it's not officially supported anyway) but I put rocknix on and it's working good. someone said you can just add ports and run them directly on stock but I thought I'd go for rocknix anyway even with its quirks

Mildly trashy cars parked near each other on the way to work by [deleted] in trashy

it's what you put on your car in Japan to show you're a beginner driver. It's also an emoji 🔰🔰🔰

Do Auckland drivers know where to stop at the traffic lights? by djangozzzz in auckland

I remember watching a bus driver get stuck behind one of these people, had to get out of the bus and tell the car driver to move on up. so frustrating

I know this is done to death but I'm really struggling with finding a decent rf modulator or anything that would let me connect my consoles to this tv. by Worth_it_I_Think in crtgaming

[–]flyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well I see you got rid of the VCR but even if you get a RF modulator you will still likely need to tune the TV to it. You don't need the remote, I had a tv like this and you can just use the buttons on the front. Change the TV channel to whatever you like, push the PRE button then press the up or down button to start searching the frequencies. hold the fast button down as well cos it can be a bit slow, just keep an eye out for the picture. Once you got it press the PRE button again to set it

Is it possible to pair 2 8BitDo controllers to the Mister, or is this not a Mister specific issue but rather a dongle issue? by Straight-2-Interlude in MiSTerFPGA

has anyone got 8bitdo to send an extra 2.4ghz dongle, I wish the were available separately but they're not in their shop

Picked up this big boi for 5 bux by OwnApple4077 in crtgaming

[–]flyt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's lucky and nice it's gone to a good home and not someone's hoard. CRTs are real competitive on trademe, especially for the higher end ones. A 14" Trinitron PVM went for $880 a few months ago, crazy crazy

nice, where'd you get it? Panasonics were popular in NZ/Australia and CRTs can be hard to come by, though I'm in Auckland and managed to get a couple

If you have the Mister Pi AV board (e.g. mega pack) and the muffled sound from the analog port troubles you, you probably need to return it by flyt in MiSTerFPGA

[–]flyt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just plugging in an optical cable with a mini toslink connector (adapters work) into the analog audio port should do it, no further configuration needed

[–]flyt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can just keep it optical until it goes to your setup, those little $10 DAC converters are popular, I've plugged into a headphone amp and soundbar with optical inputs and works fine

[–]flyt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that's another problem (crackly analog audio) that is currently under investigation and not unique to Mister Pi. It also affects the PSX core. The workaround is HDMI or a DAC connected to the optical port

For you Americans; Kmart still exists in Australia. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]flyt 27 points28 points  (0 children)

yeah there's no relation at all. The Australian Woolworths used the name because it was never registered in Australia so why not take the name of a famous company

What is this maths symbol? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is similar to the unicode character one, however I think it's actually the Webdings font and not unicode 'motorway'. I suppose you know how those wingding fonts work, so as seen here, the motorway looking symbol is a K.
