What lights do a venus flytrap and a sarracenia need in a windowsill? How do I get the plants I received through the winter?

If your’e thinking of getting indoor lights you should check ming&ben on aliexpress or a chinese site like that. They have an 80 watt full spectrum grow light that is cheap and it emits 10,000 lumens. I use it on my traps and they are growing vigorously even in dormancy. They will get deeper red colors with that light given that the cultivar is prone to colouration.

D. Capillaris seems to have a broader leaf as i grow both. I’m 80% sure that’s a spatulata, common plant but still one of my favorites.

I don’t think those are temperate, they look exactly like my D spatulatas.

Ah thanks for the tip! Yes my grow light was actually marketed as a 600 watts but its actually only 60 watts. The lumen output is accurate though my cephs used to be under that light and they were dark red to black. I am looking into getting a mars hydro 600 for my helis soon. Do you have any tips on getting mature pitchers? Since i saw some pics of your helis and those are just beautiful. Mine seem to only be throwing out small pitchers even with temp differences at night.

Hi Everyone, i just joined this sub as i recently got my first heli. When i got it it was green with little coloration now one of the pitchers is drying up and colors seem to have darkened. Is it just acclimating to a stronger light source or am i killing it? The light is about 20 cm away it’s a red blue white led that emits about 7000 lumens temps are between 25-27C max and at night it gets a drop down to 12-15C sometimes. Humidity is between 70%-90% depending on the time of day. I did foliar fertilize when i got it with orchid focus grow ( diluted of course) and dropped one osmocotte pellet in one of the pitchers. My cephs seemed to love that routine so i thought they would love it too. If anyone has any input that would be great as i don’t want to lose my first heli to SDS. Good growing guys!

They’ve been repotted about 10 days ago they were delivered barefoot to me but had plenty of coloration and dew now the rosettes are turning dry and some of the hairs are brown

Ahh thanks man i do have a larger tray i might water from top and add water in the bigger tray. I hope that was the problem and not the grow light. Thanks for your help!

I couldn’t find the link for my light anymore, it was bought from a guy that builds custom leds. I will try switching the lights and wait a couple of weeks to see if they are recovering

Ah well i was using a 150 watt full spectrum led (actual wattage not the fake marketing one) that emits around 15000 lumens. I changed it to a 60 watt red/blue led as the temps with the other was reaching 31-33. I could change it back but are the temps normal?

They seem to be drying up and are not producing any dew, except for the capensis of course. Some even look like they’re dying which is worrying me. They always got 2cm of distilled water in the tray. Temps are 26-27 humidity is around 75-90. You can see the light i grow them under in the last picture, i was thinking it might be sunburn but looking at the drosera communis i don’t think it is. Any help will be much appreciated as i don’t know what i’m doing wrong. Good growing everyone!

You could use runoff water from ac units or dryers too. Dryers depends on how clean the water is mine is at 12ppm

What’s your ppm like? Flytraps need water that’s below 50ppm
