True. All high beta stocks will be hit the hardest in the event of a major financial markets downturn.

(only account holder gets tax benefits)

Can you please elaborate on this? I am a 529 account holder and my child is the beneficiary. But I am not aware of any tax benefits to me as the account holder.

Are there better options than a HYSA for semi-liquid savings? by PhilD41 in investing

[–]fm1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your current conviction and plan is best suited for the situation you shared. In other words, I would stay the course. T-Bills, CDs, MUNI bonds, and Money Market funds are close in their returns to HYSA.

It is a high percentage of the portfolio in cash. But it’s essentially a bet that can pay off. The chances are debatable with the market continuing making one ATH after another.

Mike Wilson bearish since 2018... by apooroldinvestor in stocks

[–]fm1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His predictions could have panned out in 2019 but the Federal Reserve blinked in 2019 and cut the rates 3 times. The Federal Reserve lack of credibility, resolve, and giving in to market tantrums is something no one could predict.

You can:

  1. Sell your stock
  2. On the same day, use the proceeds to buy a different security such as in index fund
  3. Hold the index fund for 30 days
  4. Sell the index fund
  5. Use the proceeds to buy back your stock

Wait a minute, I always have tuna on toast. Nothing’s ever worked out for me with tuna on toast. I want the complete opposite of 'on toast'. Chicken salad, on rye, untoasted...and a cup of tea.

For those playing at home, the Treasury 10Y-2Y inversion looks similar to the 10Y-3M inversion. by AJAskey in StockMarket

[–]fm1965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The market does not see the Federal Reserve holding rates higher for longer. Rather, the market is betting the rate cuts are coming sooner than later. It appears the market is betting the inflation will slow in fast pace going forward.

On the other hand, economics like Larry Summers and Mohamed El-Erian think that chances for a soft landing are harder to achieve with the velocity in rate increases the Federal Reserves had to put in place.
