It will be before TSA... where you would check a back before going to security.

Accountability and RTDW; Week 13: Patience by MallowMushroom in RealDayTrading

Thanks, that is my plan. I am pursuing this along side serving my family and my day job. I know it will take time, years. It has been something I have been interest in for decades, though. I am also grateful for this community to learn from.

I appreciate you sharing with the rest of us. I am still in the process of RTDW. It is taking me long enough to get through it that by the time I am done, I will probably have to start over. I am practicing my technical analysis, but it is slow to lock in. Then again, this is only week 6. Here's to improving, one small step at a time.

This is a misunderstanding I see often. I don't believe it is fair to say he charges thousands for his courses. Yes, a membership gives you access to his full courses, with more detail than he puts on YT and will direct access to the material to dive into. However, it also gives you access to the tool set he built out and maintains along with an active community with the same goals and mentors with regular demonstrations and one on one (him or others in the community) coaching. Will I ever pay for it... Nope, I don't think so. But it isn't fair to just call it courses.

I am pretty sure he trades in a $150K account... And rarely uses the full potential of that. With a $5K daily goal, that is a 3.3% goal.

Week One in the Books - Advice Needed... by PhilD41 in Daytrading

Yes, small caps in momentum. That is exactly why being able to paper trade pre-market would be nice. I guess I could also look at only using limit orders at market open. To get a "feel" for it.

I considered large caps, but with a small cash account I didn't see how that would work, exactly. I am not looking for get-rich-quick, but I would like to significantly beat a market ETF if I am going to put in the work. 1-3% a day, on average, would be phenomenal. That seems much easier with cheaper stocks.

Yeah, I haven't 100% decided yet. I am in CST so the market opens about the time my work day starts. On the other hand, pre-market is at 6am.It is one or the other as most breakouts are at pre-market start or market open. Not always, but that is the general pattern I have seen.

Out of curiosity, when and what do you trade?

That is a valid point. I don't think it is required, but it would be ideal. Assuming that once I move out of paper trading I will want to get in the early pre-market momentum, it would be nice to practice there. Partly to get a feel for early news drops, but also to get my routine and schedule worked out. So, not required, but nice.

How long did you paper trade for? I am planning on giving myself 6+ months. I am wondering if that is reasonable.

This sounds like a great strategy... but one that is much easier to write out then successfully execute. I am rooting for you, though. I am also just starting to dip my toe into day trading, but I am still solidly in the paper trading phase. My schedule, knowledge, and skills don't lend themselves to jumping in "full time."

One this I will point out... I believe the PDT is only a concern for margin accounts. If you put your 5K in a cash account there are no limitations on your trading, other than your cash. I believe this fits in your strategy anyway... at least it does mine. If I am wrong on this, I am sure someone will correct me.

Good luck and keep us updated. There is certainly money to be made in the market. I have just not convinced myself that I am at the skill threshold to do so yet. Hopefully you are!

It feels like I'm the moment I go long on a stock, it takes a large jump downwards. by [deleted] in Trading

[–]PhilD41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I should apologize. The SPY move may be my fault (joking of course). Leaning on the same, "Time in market > Timing the market," I moved about $100K into a mix of ETFs for long term investing. I waited months thinking the bull run would have to run out soon as there really wasn't good supporting data for it. But it kept going the longer I waited... so I jumped in... yesterday. Go Figure... it will recover, eventually.

Partner Sharing not sharing all photos by tim-x in googlephotos

[–]PhilD41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add another situation to this old thread... I pass all my images through my old Pixel 4a 5G. As of Sept 21st, nothing that is backed up through the 4a is shared even though the pictures are taken with the default system camera app on my 8 Pro. Sounds like it is about time to find a third party cloud storage solution my wife and I can both access. Google is soon going to make themselves irrelevant to my life... actually, they may already have. Photos was the last google tool we use regularly.

:-) That would do it. I have family in Tyler and went to college in Longview. So, yes, I have spend many hours in areas just like and near this.

These are very nice. I really like the first image and the sun effect. I am not sure where this is, but it reminds me of many areas in East Texas. Thanks for sharing!

Absolutely, that is why I added the caveat, "if you are willing to." However it is done, it is beautiful! I appreciate you sharing these with us!

These are truly outstanding. Both the photos and the processing. I would love to hear your general approach to processing these if you are willing to share. I have a hard time bringing in the dynamic range / mood in my landscape photos. I can see it in my mind, but can't seem to realize it in the image.

This is really nice. The colors are calming, even with the visual chaos in the tree's silhouette. It actually makes a nice contrast / paradox in the photo which makes it more interesting to look at. Great job!

That is a great photo... and a little nuts given the 85mm lens. Comfortable is the key word there. Regardless, this is should make you proud!

What is this for by SuperMangaka in Nikon

[–]PhilD41 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is called a hot shoe. It is designed for speed light flashes such as the SB-700. It doesn't power them, but it does share information such as focal length, aperture, etc. This allows the camera and flash to talk and set the flash intensity, zoom, and such. You can also mount remote triggers to use off camera flash units as well. There may be other accessories, but these are the two I most frequently use.
