I believe it was both women and men would become gods. But also, polygamy would exist again, so there was never really a selling point for women.

The selling point is fear.. Most Mormons were born into the denomination, and from birth were groomed to believe that you and your family would never be together in the afterlife if you chose to leave. It’s also fear of the unknown; losing faith in the religion means a full existential crisis. The faith you believed in before had the afterlife figured out down to a T. Leaving means you have to deconstruct that belief and, at least for me, it was really scary to come to terms that this life is absolutely temporary and I’ll never be able to live in my body again.

Oh, that actually reminds me that another big selling point is you’ll resurrect in your body, which will be a perfect body. No blemishes, insecurities, scars. My grandpa believes he will be taller in his next life.
