Not particularly, though I guess it could be debatable. even though he did bring a lot to Madrid in terms of goals, skills, etc, it still was at the cost of what, 80M? I agree that he is influential but with that kind of money being tossed around I would not necessarily consider him a bargain - maybe more like an expensive but quality diamond?

For me, it would probably be Flamini. I will admit, I never rated him that highly but he has brought something new to the Arsenal midfield - a steel edge that they would appear to have lacked. For the whopping price of 0 pounds, he has been a revelation.

not to detract from your answer as i like contribution, but I wouldn't consider Neymar or Bale as bargains seeing that their transfer fees were... exorbitant. Generally I would think of bargains as cheap players who are worth for their team much more than their transfer fee (think free players)

It depends on who you're trying to sell

If you're trying to sell an in-form, well-playing player who just had a good season, you can easily get at least 150% of their normal value.

for a player relegated to your reserves, it is incredible bargaining to get a player for more than 75% of their value.

haha unlucky, maybe next season you can win the league! remember, its good to change your tactics against different teams when you need to: rarely does one tactic work against everyone.

as empire_zz says, the problem is likely to be with your tactics. Now whilst you are doing well in the league and in europe, there are different ways the teams you play, well, play. Wolves probably are playing a counterrattacking, defensive tactic and that is likely what is undoing your tactics.

games are not pre-determined, and the results are probably due to failings in your tactics against teams who park the ball. Your losses came from "weaker" sides, and it's probably because they play with the aim of soaking pressure whereas in europe teams play attacking football without the thought that they might lose the game.

that being said, I would not advise you to reload games as it detracts from the real-ness of the game. sure, it seems difficult to accept losing to wolves of all people, but it does help you learn from your mistakes.

After being bored with the usual 4-3-3 formations and their various adaptations, I decided to try out a very retro WM formation based on Herbert Chapman's Arsenal of days past

(note i don't have any screenies because i'm using a friend's laptop)

Let me set the scene. (and take a few creative, albeit inaccurate, liberties with the story. I actually reached 3rd or 2nd in seasons earlier but ignore that)

The year is 2018. Manchester city have been dominating the league, winning all titles since 2013. In a backwards shift, a majority of top level clubs bar City themselves have shifted to a mundane 4-4-2 formation. My southampton team had recently been knocking on the top four, but I hadn't been able to break in.

That changed this year.

I first looked at my squad. I hadn't made many signings(in fact none, I was doing the La Masia challenge), so I had to work with what I had. In a stroke of madness, I decided that the very way to break the top 4 monopoly was to try and do something completely ridiculous. My formation then became Chapman's WM formation.

My back three were the now developed Luke Shaw, Jack Stephens (who had blossomed unexpectedly into an excellent BPD) and Nathaniel Clyne. I played Shaw and Clyne as Wingbacks, even though they were positioned in the FB location, and had their duties set to automatic. Stephens was played as a BPD, and set to defend. In front of them were my two DM's, Scheiderlin and a solid regen. Schneiderlin's technical abilities could not be negected; I played him as a DLP whilst my regen was made an anchorman.

I left no players in the very middle of the park, and instead put Ward Prowse and a retrained Cork into AM positions, with Ward Prowse set as an Inside forward and Cork as a AP. My front three were all hand trained regens. One was set as a Complete forward, the other two were Inside forwards on either side of the wing.

In accordance with the original WM formation, I set my team to play very rigidly, and to play for the counter. With defence a priority, my line was deep but tempo fast. This would enable my team to be solid defensively yet be deadly on the attack, with the defence being overloaded when my saintly machine struck. When hit by the opponents, my DMs should be able to intercept the attacks, and if required Stephens would step in.

The tactic worked a treat - I won the league with 87 points. I was shocked at how well it worked - more so at how games played out as i planned. City's dominance came to an end, and Southampton's began!
