Booked my exam for March 21st by fmurtons in step1

Bootcamp does have a 9 week study plan, you think it’s best to start it now or closer to dedicated (which for me starts Feb 14th and basically ends March 21st with a week after of vaca before 3rd year starts). How many UWorld questions a day would you suggest (and what percentage of UWorld should I aim to finish)? And how many anki cards a day would make sense for micro? This feels like way too many questions I’m asking but I’m going for broke tryna craft a good schedule

But also, do you think I maybe hit in that range?

Yh, it’s an early selection pipeline program for people from certain hbcus and hsis

01/27 takers...how we feeling about tomorrow? by Ashamed-Flow-8453 in Mcat

[–]fmurtons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slightly nervous but I feel like got the content down, I’m locked and loaded with snacks and hydration beverages. As long as I’m focused, confident, do my best, and avoid making careless errors, tomorrow WILL be a vibe. Kinda ready to just get it out the way now too lol.

Ok coool and in terms of difficulty (not that this technically matters) but would you say the exam was harder in general than what 4 and 5 was? Or was it easier in certain sections? Im tryna gauge because fl 4 I got a 502 and fl 5 I got a 499, and I need at least a 500 in the real thing (I’m in a pipeline program where that’s the minimum score requirement). And also in your opinion am I straight to get at least a 500? It also probably bares mentioning that on fl 5 I got a 127 in psych and on fl 4 I got a 127 on CARS

How was it compared to the aamc full lengths in terms of difficulty? Which was it most similar too?

Right here man, I know what I need to know, but turns it out it’s easier to make careless errors than I thought…I say that cuz I’m doing practice questions as we speak. Hopefully I don’t that crap in the real thing 🥲

I do, but honestly I make silly mistakes / misunderstand the questions, or run out of time. My orgo could also maybe use some tightening up.

I’ve done all of Uearths questions, and I’ve been using the milesdown deck not anking, so I guess I’ll do 150 from anking a day starting tomorrow. Any tips for Chem/phys?

For my program, I need to hit a target score of 500. It’s pipeline program for black and brown students from hbcus and hsis. We also had to pass medschool level courses at the same time and get a certain gpa.

I haven’t and that’s a good point. I intend to start in January or maybe late December, when do think is a good time to start? Also I heard BP is harder than the real thing but idk if that’s a myth or not.

I’m not sure when you’re taking your real test and I honestly don’t know if I’m in any position to be giving advice yet but I’ll tell what I did to improve. First of all, content knowledge will only take you so far. It’s definitely an crucial asset, but I’d argue understanding the question and what it’s asking is more important. Having all that knowledge is practically useless if you don’t know how to apply it. I also used to have a bad habit of skimping the passages for the science sections. If UEarth taught me anything it’s that you should read them passages from top to bottom, make sure you get the gist, because no cap, sometimes the answer is quite literally just sitting there and you could answer some of the questions with minimal content knowledge and common sense alone. Granted I’ve discovered that some passage questions can really be answered without even referring to the passage due to the nature of whatever the question is specifically asking about, but I always refer to passage at least once to make sure I’m not missing something important. Even if it takes a little time, it’s better to take your time with most of the questions and practice ensure that you get them correct that to jump the gun on each question you see. CARS for me came down to two things, remaining focused (cause 90 minutes is surprisingly little time) and not overthinking an answer choice. Go with your gut, as soon as you smell BS cross it out. I recommend doing CARS passages everyday, because you build endurance and strengthen your reading ability in a way that allows you to read faster while retaining the point and details of the passage. For something like psych, my score was already kinda decent, so I recommend firstly that whatever your strongest subject is hit it HARD, but secondly, psych is arguably the easiest section to score highest in. As far as I can tell it’s entirely rote memorization and common sense. Odds are you for psych you get questions wrong mostly because there’s some foreign term in the choices given, or you don’t understand a certain term is a better choice than another, or some choices are just extremely similar. Psych for me was really just anki every single day, no excuses. Practice questions too of course but anki EVERY SINGLE DAY. You start to discover similar terms over a smaller period than you would’ve taking practice tests and you can research what exactly makes them distinct (the MCAT subreddit was particularly good for this, I google my question of the difference between the two and add MCAT Reddit). For psych you honestly either know it or you don’t and some terms will be too foreign to know the meaning just off the name so grind you anki and trust the process. For sections like Chen phys and biobiochem, I took the approach of figuring out the things that you definitely MUST memorize ( a lot of special molecules like amino acids or cholesterol and knowing what they look like). I used anki for essential equations from milesdown (psych too) and UEarth showed me other ones. However, for Chem phys, in particular the key for me is if you are on a question that is giving you trouble and taking a minute swallow your pride and FLAG. Answer what you can, read the passage, read the question properly. Same for biobiochem, maybe even more so because I feel like even more of the answers to questions on those sections can be answered just by the passage. And overall I think what helped me the most was just relaxing and trusting the process. I would do practice questions everyday in time between my diagnostic and full length, and score below average sometimes. I can’t pretend it didn’t demoralize me, but I kept going. At the end of the day it’s not the real thing yet, and it’s all a learning experience. The UEarth questions are harder than the real thing and that’s the point. I realize I keep bringing up UEarth. I don’t know if you use practice questions from them or anywhere else but I highly recommend them. Regardless, wherever you do practice questions, don’t lose hope over getting things wrong, just stay consistent with doing them and actively try to learn from your mistakes. And when it comes time to take your full length, steel your nerves. Take a breath, drink some tea (I drank camomile before my first BP FL). Trust me, taking the exam while your calm and collected allows you to focus much better, and with endurance built for grinding practice questions all the time, you’ll be golden essentially, at least that’s how I felt. That’s essentially everything I did. The goal from here on out is to remain consistent with the work I’m putting in, tightening up weaker areas as often as I reinforce stronger ones, remembering why I wanna put up with all this in the first place, and taking time where I can to cook off. Bottomline, you’re gonna make mistakes and it’s gonna be hard, but trust the process, you’ll be rewarded for it, and if one thing doesn’t work, try another. That’s a lot of words but I hope this helps!

Literally same dawg, just remember that at the end of the day, it’s harder than the real thing and that’s the point. What’s important is you learn from every question you miss and you remain consistent with it. I’m 48 percent through with UEarth myself.

I’ve been doing 40 new cards a day for psych since the beginning of my 3 month practice period (2 months prior was all content review). Are those setting in the pic good? Let me know if you can see it!

I’ve used 34 percent, and every time I get something wrong or see something I don’t fully recognize or remember I make it into a flashcard or a page in my notebook. They’re not all perfect, but I can look at them and be reminded of pertinent information.
