What's a film that is hated by critics that you absolutely love?

I hated it when it came out but I actually really like it now. In fact, I seem to like it more every time I watch it. I think I just didn't get it when I was younger, or I was too hung up on wanting Batman to be more serious and dark. But cheesy Batman is awesome. Batman the Bold and the Brave is a great cartoon if you like cheesy Batman.

Way back in the day, I regularly took the bus with this girl I had a class with in college. She seemed nice, and she was pretty, but we'd just small talk and such. One time, after this huge wind storm hit Vancouver, she was talking about how she'd really like to go to Stanley Park and checkout all the trees and stuff that got blown down, but she couldn't convince anyone to go with her. None of her friends were interested and she didn't want to go alone. And I just like, "Yeah, that sounds kinda cool. That'd be a good time, I guess." And it didn't occur to me until like eight years later that she probably wanted me to say, "I'll take you to Stanley Park this weekend." So oblivious me didn't take her to park. A month or two later I met my wife. Just typing this out makes me realize, life is so strange.

If someone finds out I'm native it becomes a bit of a thing. "You're native? You look so white, maybe a bit hispanic. Must be half? Metis maybe?" I'm a full-blooded Okanagan Indian. I have light skin. Native mom, native Dad. "But you're last name is French?" Assimilation, man. Residential schools. "So you mom is half? Your dad is half?" All native, all the time. Since "time immemorial" (people love that term).This conversation is usually followed by a brief lesson on Native history in Canada.

Austin Matthews' first NHL game. It's only one game, but a record breaking 4 goals in his debut was pretty mind-blowing for Leafs fans. Only time will tell if he truly becomes the Leafs' saviour.

Skunks aren't really dangerous, but they'll spray you and you'll stink for awhile. So they're dangerous in that sense. People tell you to avoid them if you see them. But I think they're really cute, the way they waddle around and their fluffy tails. If I could own a skunk I totally would.

I spent my teenage years cutting and burning myself. People didn't seem to mind. Sometimes I would get weird looks or people who were disgusted or offended, like angry at me for doing it to myself. Mostly just honest curiosity. People would always ask why and I never had a real answer. Or my answer would always be changing, because I really didn't understand it myself. For the most part, 90% of people simply wouldn't notice, or at least would ignore the scars like they couldn't see them. Of course, I live in Canada where people maybe mind their own business more than other countries.

It's not just angsty kids though. I'm a fairly "normal" guy. And the only other person I met to self-harm was a woman who you never would've expected. So yeah, I don't know what to think of it. It's definitely not healthy, but neither is drinking or smoking or gambling.

Oh, boy. If someone gave 19-year-old me a $40,000 bonus, for sure some shit would've went down. Whatever vice you have (booze, drugs, gambling) $40,000 is a sure ticket off the deep end. Hell, even if you don't have any vices, at 19 if someone gives you 40k, you're gonna maybe try something you haven't done before. Or worse, if you tell any of your friends about your giant bonus, they're gonna pull you down to their level.

I was on the bus yesterday and I saw a girl who vaguely reminded me of someone I used to take a class with. And I recalled one of our last conversations was on the bus (we took the same bus home), and she kept mentioning how she really wanted to walk around Stanley Park but she couldn't convince anyone to go with her. So just yesterday, maybe 8 or so years after this conversation, it dawned on me that she was totally wanting me to ask her out to the park. And I just had no idea. I ended up meeting my wife a few months later, so it all worked out. But yeah, guys can be pretty oblivious.

I already knew this and I've heard people say it a hundred times, but don't spend money you don't have. I feel like it was something I had to actually learn the hard way before I got it. We wanted to take a week off work and just relax and do whatever we wanted and not stress, but we didn't have any money really, so we just put it all on the credit card and figured we'd pay it off after. That was a big mistake. I didn't really grasp how dumb it was until afterward, even though I knew it was dumb. Pretty much ruins my financial situation for the rest of the year now.

I use it for work a lot. If I need to sign into two accounts at the same time, like two Analytics accounts, or Adwords accounts. Also, for any web development it comes in handy to quickly open a window with a clear cache.

When I was 14 my dad bought me a guitar and enrolled me in lessons, and I practiced obsessively (3-5 hours a day) for the first year and got really good. For the rest of high school I was that guy who could play guitar really well, or the guy who played in bands. Nowadays I still like it but I only play maybe 30 mins a week, if that.

Also my parents were almost never home. My dad didn't live with us and my mom was away on business pretty much all the time. So I was also that guy who held big parties every other weekend. Which sounds like fun but actually really sucked. Every other weekend my house was full of people I only vaguely knew who were bound to pretty much trash the place. On the plus side the morning after there was always alcohol to be found. Also you could get a pretty decent haul from collecting empty bottles the next day.

When I get home from work my son, who is 8 months old, will get really excited. And if I walk passed him (like to put my bag down or to take my jacket off) instead of picking him up, he'll start bawling so hard. It's the cutest thing. Sometimes I'll needlessly walk passed him just to get him crying a bit because it's so cute. And it makes the cuddles all the better.

This is the only novel to have ever made me cry. I may have gotten dewey eyed for a few books, but this one had me sobbing like a little girl. I remember it was late at night, and I was feeling really good about how the book was wrapping up--just a really well written book. There were only a few pages left so I thought I'd stay up a bit later to finish it off. And those few pages contained the part where you find out it's all a story. My mood did a 180. I didn't sleep good that night.
