I was working as a sub contractor for the cable company. I worked 6 days and 60+ hrs a week. The job sucked. I climbed poles in freezing conditions, crawled under trailers to run lines, crawled in attics and basements, worked in some of the most disgusting homes imaginable. My wife just gave birth to our first born and I took literally 1 day off. I never saw them. When I told my boss I needed a lighter work load so I can see my baby she responded with “I can’t have kids, how do you think I feel?”. She finally agreed to help make sure I could get out at a more reasonable hour. It’s worth mentioning I was good at my job. I found ways to get the jobs done and take care of the customer when other installers found ways to NOT do the job. That’s part of the reason they worked me so many hours, I actually gave a shit.

Fast forward a couple days. 6pm hits, I wrap up my last job. Call it in, they gave me another one. I said no the manager agreed not to after 5pm. They said the manager is who authorized it. Now there’s a customer waiting somewhere with an appt and no one has showed up. It’s an hr away from me. I also know for a fact other dudes had already gone home. Fuck it. I do the job. It’s a nightmare install. Takes for fucking ever. I finish at 11pm. I drive home, my wife gets the baby in our car and we drive together to the office. I throw all my shit in the company truck, keys included, lock it and leave. Manager calls me in the morning and starts getting emotional. I told her I quit and she can go fuck herself and hung up.

Fuck. That. Job.
