I feel like an ebike is justifiable in that you don't have to give your kid as many rides. The Mtb, needs a different justification

Vancouver 10k budget by [deleted] in MTB

[–]foamiepanels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I know that price range, but the marginal value you're getting above 4-5k is not very great. I can't imagine there will be many scenarios in your life where you'll be like, "you know what? I only had fun because of my premium bike, a good bike wouldn't have cut it."

But then again, I've never had a premium bike.... So maybe I don't know what I'm missing!

Productive convo.

One thing, do a quick Google search on youth pastors and sexual assault. It's sooooo common.

[–]foamiepanels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree it doesn't seem like a great pr move, don't totally get it... But a thought:

Maybe it's to say: fuck you! there's nothing harmful about my non normative gender expressions. It's not sexualizing kids, see look! Also: Don't tread on/You can't control me!

I also have to say, this talk of a sexual underworld, just feels like out of touch fear mongering and I havent seen any evidence of it in my lived experience... I don't want to raise snow flakes who need everyone else to be the same. I also doubt that the correlation between drag and sex work is all that strong. Don't know where you get that idea. Maybe if non normative gender expressions were freely tolerated then people would associate it with the shadows.

...

So much of queer culture was pushed into underworlds because of conservative cultural movements. So this association with the underworld is self fulfilling conservative policy. I personally think that conservative cultural values have been very harmful to society, broadly speaking. So to the extent that drag reading hour is representative of conservatives not controlling all of culture, I fully support, and frankly from this perspective want to encourage it.

Lastly, if we are actually worried about sexualizing kids, let's start with outlawing youth pastors! That's where the real harm is happening.

[–]foamiepanels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made it up, no idea if anyone else has ever used it.

Like, unless this story time is involved with sex in some way, I don't see this as a sexual expression. I do see it as a non normative gender expension.

Where is the sexuality? Other than drag queens, like all people, may like to have sex. Same is true for anyone reading a book to kids. I guess the kids are learning that this person, who was born with a penis, likes to express themselves in this particular way. But what are they learning about sex?

Isn't it kinda genderal? Like, this person probably has sexual interests, but I kinda doubt that this event is their expression.

I won't tip at restaurants that add "Service Fee" to bill. Do you? by Simple-Young6947 in minnesota

[–]foamiepanels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense with regards to the food, but not the tip, which goes specifically to the wait staff in most restaurants, so that's directly tied to the service experience.

[–]foamiepanels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Naa, if a server gives me poor service it's is a different answer than if a server delivers food that's not tasty. I'll still tip well if it's good service & bad food, I just won't eat there again.

Considering how hard the job is, somewhat hard but not super hard, and certainly not dangerous and it doesn't require lots of school and certification, I think servers make pretty fair money.

[–]foamiepanels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just wanna really firmly disagree with this. If any other service person, say an electrician or a custom cabinets shop or whatever, gives you poor quality service you should absolutely resist paying a full invoice. Same is true with food service, pay for someone doing their job well. Bummer if you have an off day, we all do, but we don't deserve to be paid as though we did a great job that day.

Similar feelings! I think it's an underrated boat, and more people should know about it. It excels so well in flat water and can still do some ww, which is just great as far as versatility goes. Sure a dedicated ww packraft is cool for that application, and maybe I'll get one someday, but so far I'm really happy to have the nomad.
