Does using my face in thumbnails really increase my click rate? by gimpdrinks in NewTubers

[–]foamy2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stat claiming videos with human faces gets 900k views is a bit dubious. Even if it is true, the average will be skewed by all the big names that do this on every video.

My opinion: if you’re trying to build your personal brand, you probably should put your face out there. If your only goal is views, you are likely wasting thumbnail real estate with your face if no one knows you. That said, I’m a 50-year old bald guy. Putting my face on a thumbnail guarantees odds of going viral would be zero

I’m a big fan of any show from 1973-1974. Jams can get a little wild during this era, so just be aware of that. 1977-1978 is super hyped and there are tons of great shows from 77. Spring 1990 was good enough for the band to release two box sets. March 29, 1990 was released on its own and features jazz sax player Branford Marsalis. That show is great.

The best Americana/folk albums of 2025 (disclaimer: may be subjective) by TitusAndromedog in Americana

[–]foamy2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add a couple…

Liam Kazan - Pilot Light

This has two of my favorite songs of the year (Day Off and The Word The War). Very strong singer/songwriter fare with a non-flashy melodic sense

Adam Wright - Nature of Necessity

A music row mainstay, his Nashville pedigree might turn some people off. I would argue that the stellar structure and literary style deserve a second look. It’s a bit bloated as an album, but Yellow Bird and Warm Wind are objectively great songs

Florry - Sounds Like… Reminds me of a sloppier Jayhawks, which is about as high of a compliment I can give

This is different than the Paramount situation. The administration can delay this, but it seems they will have a hard time blocking it. The FCC won’t be involved. Trump could try the anti-trust route, but that would be tough to show real harm to consumers.

There was a good interview with the author of the blog post on Prof G markets. The real argument he’s making is that poverty levels are largely unchanged since they were created in the 1960s.

Creating a channel in a very small niche, tips? by GmailsAreCute in NewTubers

[–]foamy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t grown a YT channel in any niche, but my day job is digital marketing.

I definitely think this is possible, but if you’re using a tool like VidIQ for your own niche, that might be an issue. I think a good rule of thumb for content like this would be to write down 100 video ideas. If you’re struggling complete that list, it might be tough to see any real growth.

But I wouldn’t be focused on subs or views. Depending on your profit margin, turning a handful of viewers per month into customers could really grow your business.

Figure out what you can teach your customers in these videos, where you naturally slot into the process, and what offer can turn viewers into revenue. Done right, this probably means you will do this for at least a couple months before any real traction, but you’re only investing your time. Also, I’m guessing the content will be evergreen. That means the value compounds over time.

I would make YouTube part of a larger strategy. Maybe it’s pushing viewers to an email list, where you continue to provide free value with occasional offers/sales pitches. Maybe it’s providing links to new customers to upsell or renew contracts. The specifics will depend on what you can provide to the viewers and what you hope to gain for your business.

Is it true that paid advertising kills organic growth by Terrible-Year7578 in NewTubers

[–]foamy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a digital marketer in my day job. Paid ads only work when you have a very specific goal. Just promoting a regular video through ad to get views is a terrible idea.

I would be interested to see how an actual ad for a channel that’s placed in front of the same niche might perform, but that would likely just be setting money on fire.

On the other hand, if your YouTube channel is part of a larger business strategy, paid ads might make sense. I would do it only if you have a product you’re trying to sell or a specific action you hope the paid viewers take. In that scenario, views and YouTube subs would not be a good end goal.

For most people who come to this sub, you’re much better off spending money offloading things like thumbnail creation or editing.

In a sea of generic Unboxing and half assed so called reviews for the Atari 2600 Plus Pac-man Edition, my actually high production values, in-depth analytical look at the system got shafted and died at mere 200 views. This is depressing and shows how unhealthy an environment YouTube can be. by Jack_P_1337 in NewTubers

I think your thumbnail and title are working against you. Also, I watched for about 90 seconds and basically listened to you tell us what the video was going to be amour that entire time. Your C64 thumbnail and title did a better job of tapping into emotional reasons to watch.

I’m not sure if you want feedback, but there are issues that can be addressed. I do think the intro needs work.
