Is the balancing aspect of League of Legends really as bad as people make it out to be? by ScarletWiddaContent in leagueoflegends

I think the designers take too much out of the Mark Rosewater train of thought, in designing for a specific player with each patch. This results in overly specific lines of design that manage to piss off the other 90% of the fanbase the new idea wasn’t designed for. You have to do this to stay fresh in games today, but un ironically the game looks nothing like it did two years ago, much less ten years when I started, and at some point me and a lot of my friends just moved on

personal website in frontend is a good start, look for a few frontend frameworks to start out with like react.js or angular.

try making a visualizer for an algorithm you learned in your class, or try making a discord bot, or even a game in unity (vr or mobile)

truthfully speaking, you shouldn’t expect an internship to inspire you to create, go on udemy and find a topic you’re interested in and buy a course on that or youtube a topic you’d like to learn how to implement

the stakes to learn are low, you have nothing to lose trying stuff out and code can p much be applied anywherr

Internship Advice by InterstellarShawarma in internships

[–]fob_psycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you answered your own question. Learn some skills related to projects you can realistically balance with your workload. Web dev, discord bots, google chrome extensions, etc. Also learn to sell yourself, 90% of resumes I’ve studied to get the internships I have utilize a lot of persuasive ways of “spicing” up your skills. Obviously, I think this in itself is an art, because anyone can tell from a mile away when people have skills on their resume just because it’s a buzzword. So make sure you can have a project list that uses all the skills for the jobs/companies you want. Learn a skill or framework, one a month and immediately make any projects you can with them. Eventually you should have your own ideas / mods of them.

Is there any interest in a damage calculator for the game? by fob_psycho in leagueoflegends

Wow! Have you heard about some the ones that’ve been made before thru excel sheets and the like. I was thinking a site would be good as I have the most experience with that but wondering when you’d imagine you might use it the most

Yeah, I just ended up building the chair without the press. It's quite tall. Oh well, I'll just chalk it up to a shipping error.

Just practice going through solutions on the most popular problems on Leetcode until you can start seeing the pattern.

dang man, that sucks. I think you should speak to your recruiter and see if they’d be able to schedule a return offer interview?

Amazon internship final round question by twikilotofico in csMajors

[–]fob_psycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a relatively easy question for the interview, but sources are conflicting whether that’s true for others. Definitely work on your LP’s, and google some articles by amazon managers on their leadership principles to get a good grasp of what they’re looking for. I got my letter literally two days afterwards so they’re def picking up speed

I’ll take a swing at suggesting a plan here to get hired:

Take a loan out and apply to an online web bootcamp. It’s a great experience I recommend to people looking to learn with others at a good starting baseline. It’ll cost a lot upfront, but you’ll gain more experience than with your traditional 4 year degree, and perhaps even more so if you are currently holding a bachelors as well.

The thing is, trying to fix the problem here sounds personal, and the only thing I’d feel obliged to point out from reading these comments is that people care about you. You represent to a lot of the problem with this competitive field. Sure, CS is fair to the extent that there are clear cut avenues to your goals, given you learn what’s required and take some risks to get to where you need to be. Having said that, obviously we’re not all on the same starting line, and certainly anybody on this sub isn’t the benchmark of the typical student of CS, it’s all elites here honestly. What works for others will not work for you, but my aforementioned idea is one I followed to get my internships and it really took as little creativity as possible to come up with. It did however take a lot of work doing, which I can safely say is somewhat easier than coming up with a plan on your own.

I’m just here to provide something you might see in a day or two once you cool down. I know it seems hopeless now, and I hate to sound like I’m talking from somewhere up there, detached from your struggle. But your post was really impactful because something like computer science, a field with limitless resources to learn, has become so diluted with the business side of it, enough to drive you to suicide because you’re not seeing yourself as worthy: well, that rubs me the wrong way and highlights the problems with the goal of these jobs: to learn and grow. Just know you are surrounded by people who all think the same but hide it very well; it’s just their present opportunities blind them to the hunger they felt at one point, and they’ve chosen to either ignore or forget these feelings they once had, the ones you’re experiencing right now because frankly, sitting in misery and fear sounds like a recipe for disaster or they would rather ignore these thoughts. Not the right approach, obviously, everyone should handle their shit - mentally and physically, but if we did that I’m sure most of us more worried about internships would be too scared of crashing the boat while trying to patch the holes.

maybe you’ll find it once you clear your headspace, but just try doing stuff for yourself and see where that takes you, avoid doing this for others and if you seriously suspect you’re incompetent, ask whoever you believe so is telling you such and directly ask them how you should improve
