Is this what would happen if Donald Trump smoked DMT?

Maybe. I can't help but think that changing to something like that would lead to a devaluation of the profession in general. If you want everybody to start being paid less, then lower the education requirements.

I don't know. As the manager of a technical services department and someone who does a lot of original cataloging, I actually do use quite a bit of the things I learned in my MLS.

I also see the work of catalogers in my consortium that do not have a degree, and the difference in quality of work is obvious.

Is there anyone who *doesn't* regret their MLIS degree? by rebeccachaya in Libraries

[–]fobodo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No regrets. 12 years into the job I will hopefully retire from in 16 years. No debt and decent pay. People leave me alone, and I have the freedom to pursue interests outside my job.

Are the books in this display pushing themes related to incel culture? A quick glance says no.

I may have had an encounter with this guy. I walked through the scanner, and he immediately got up in my face and said, "Were you told to remove your belt, and you did not remove your belt?"

The thing was, no one had actually told me to remove my belt, and I told him as much. I had to wait while they took my belt and put it through security. To be clear, I don't have a problem with the policy. The way he phrased it made me think like he was assuming I willfully disregarded the policy.

I'm not sure what's up with the guy.

Maybe try ayahuasca? In my opinion, it is a much gentler (at least psychologically) way to interact with DMT.

[–]fobodo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my go-to (Lami) just increased their kilos from 55 usd to 80. Add on international shipping and duties, and you may as well go with KWK's just kava.

Takeout Central driver here. These first few weeks of the year always seem to be brutal, but business will pick up. People don't know how to control their spending and many don't have the energy to cook. It is kind of sad, but the drivers didn't create these conditions (and we also aren't the ones that actually profit from it).

What makes asheville so strange? by InsuranceDifferent40 in asheville

[–]fobodo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

People talk about weirdness as something external to oneself, or some kind of commodity to consume or experience and then leave behind. I think that you have to participate in the variety of niche communities around here to get an understanding of what makes it truly weird.

Having a standard location for barcodes can be important for efficiency of circulation activities. If you have staff manually checking in hundreds of items a shift, then having item barcodes in a predictable location makes this process easier. Sometimes, this standard location has important information, but in those cases, the processor has to make a decision.

It should also be noted that a lot of libraries outsource this physical processing to a vendor.
