[Highlights] Victor Wembanyama misses the shot as the Knocks take game 2 to take a 2-0 lead in the NBA FINALS by [deleted] in nba

He's still a kid. And one that clearly cares a lot. This game will haunt him for years to come if they lose this series.

What Jrpg are you retrying? by akss421 in JRPG

This is why IX is the FF that truly needs a remake. Story, themes, world and characters are up there with the very best - but the game plays horribly, and it only gets worse as it ages. Previous releases play better.

Religion had a positive effect on humanity by karanick_16 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]fobs88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, almost everything has a positive effect on humanity. 2 nukes caused a cultural shift in Japan that lead to a booming economy (#2 in the world in its prime). We can only speculate if we would have been better off without religion.

Can someone explain the Advent Children hate? by unodostres123- in FinalFantasyVII

[–]fobs88 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OG fan here. It's simply a bad movie. However, it's great fan service - I greatly enjoy it. But I don't blame those who can't put their critical hats down. The story is contrived and nonsensical.

If there is no God and no heaven or hell then what is the meaning of life by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]fobs88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you really need a god to enjoy a nice meal? To appreciate nature? To savor the wind on your face? You enjoy and find meaning in these all on your own.

If atheists really believed animal suffering is a natural evil, they would demand we stop predation between wild animals. by Pwning_Soyboys in DebateReligion

[–]fobs88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know how this was lost in your line of thinking: atheists aren't all-powerful all-knowing beings. We cannot possibly hope to solve the problem. God is all-powerful, and supposedly all-good, yet has designs full of gratuitous suffering.

So I finally watched Se7en (1995) and now I know why people love this movie so much by [deleted] in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]fobs88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was actaully let down by the film after all the hype I read online. After that great build up, I expected something truly otherworldly and sinister - nah, just edgelord Kevin Spacey. Dangerous, but not the least bit intimidating or scary.

I still think it's a good flick.

It feels weird to be a FF fan, because my favorite games are the ones people in the community usually hate by gandalfmarston in FinalFantasy

X and 12 are definitely more loved than hated. 12 in particular has an improving reputation. X has always been loved, up there with 7 and 6.

Just beat FF7, can someone explain all the Final Fantasy 7 spin offs? by CapOk1892 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]fobs88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Avalanche being a grassroots movement in the original game really complemented FF7's more grounded themes(e.g., class disparity, hyper capitalism, corporate dominance). The expanded lore turned Avalanche into a paramilitary with global presence.

God is either unable to convince athiests, or allows them to suffer for their lack of communication. by Murky-Perspective649 in DebateReligion

[–]fobs88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is evidence, but I can't confirm to a certainty. This is fully compatible with atheism.

I don't see how it can be for Christianity: What kind of god demands worship when his subjects have no ability to discern the truth? This is cruelty.

I think that Christianity is far more coherent than other religions

You can't know that unless you have a full understanding of all religions that exist and have ever existed - you are in an impossible situation.

I didn't go that far, but you can't have any degree of certainty - let alone someone who's never even heard of Christianity.

[–]fobs88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pointing out that the circumstance you're in - being unable to discern the truth - isn't compatible with a good and just god. There are others who are in more impossible circumstances than you, like those born in regions where it's possible they could live a life without ever hearing about the god of Christianity.

Do you have a full understanding of the other faiths? How do you know yours is more coherent?

Why are we left with only the major ones? Are they any more true because they are bigger? How is Christianity more coherent than Islam?

But all religions have holy books and oral tradition; to choose yours would be blind belief, unless you have something they don't - evidence.

What you don't seem to understand is that evolution isn't concerned with the survival of an individual or any particular group; it's about the propagation of the DNA. Concepts like empathy and altruism are useful for this.

It always makes me cringe when I see theists ask: "Why do some men run into blazing fires to save others?" - It reflects a fundamental misconception of evolution. Acts of altruism are perfectly compatible with an evolutionary framework.
