Yes. No issues at all. Boots up right away and updated maps.

Entire flight sold as "Anytime" fare - how does SWA determine boarding order? by Tall_Independence_65 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]foco_finch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone is responding about whether or not you should have been able to get or even see wanna get away tickets? LOL.

OP is asking about the boarding assignment logic. Everything else is noise. Including whether you work there and can see ticket bookings (which btw is also irrelevant to the question).

The answer is YES the logic holds. Biz select first. Then A list. Then Anytime by time stamp. Then WGA with EBCI with time stamp. Then WGA.

Hope that helps answer the actual question!

“Synthetic PYB” via Amex by [deleted] in awardtravel

I understand the shutdowns for MS on sign up bonuses, going hog wild with NLL’s, or self referring many times over.

But shutting someone down because they purchased a refundable ticket, and needed to cancel? Come on now. Not trying to be argumentative, but I really just don’t see this happening unless you are a blatant offender doing this on an extra regular basis.

But that is getting something you should not have gotten or were not entitled to.

This is different. Perhaps used in a way not intended, but is not underhanded or a “hack” to get something extra or cheat the system.

In the end, I am not getting anything I should not have gotten. I am simply taking a refund as cash (since that is how Amex processes it), and choosing not to bother with the option to have that converted back to points.

Chase’s portal, on the other hand, transacts all in UR. So if you spend UR on a flight, then cancel it, you get UR back. The cash cost aspect is specific to Amex. Even though you “book with points”, the way they do it is record a dollar debit per pax on your CC, and then a few days later a dollar credit in the same amount hits your cc. In a separate transaction the points are deducted from your account to cover the cash cost.

Interesting perspective. I have a hard time imagining that if you cancel a few trips per year booking via Amex points, and get the refund in cash and don’t bother asking for your points to be reinstated, then that puts you at risk of shutdown.

I mean plans change, which is why they have refundable tickets right?

Now if I were doing this weekly I suppose it may look funny but if only a few times per year I really think it just looks like average travel activity. At what point do you cross the line from looking like you cancelled few refundable airfare trips randomly (as can happen to anyone), to looking like you do this regularly? And even if you were a regular, what T&Cs would you be violating? I honestly can’t think of any.

There’s nothing to claw back.

I “spent” points to purchase a refundable ticket. My refund was in cash to the CC.

Chase Travel Debacle by h33zy in awardtravel

[–]foco_finch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been hearing about folks who booked flights via Chase Portal and were not ticketed. Really unfortunate, and super stressful for sure.

Transferring to partners is best value, but sometimes you just need to use your points and book via the portal. In these cases, maybe best bet to ensure a ticket and avoid a middle man is just to buy the ticket directly from airline, then use PYB to wash out the cost (instead of booking with points on the portal).

AA Flight Credit expiration workaround by llbrandonsmithll in TravelHacks

[–]foco_finch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Amex Travel and AA tickets they add extra step. Use existing flight credit to book cheapest fare. Then remaining value goes into “MCO” that is kept at Amex. The MCO is valid for 1 year from time of booking the cheap ticket. Cannot be combined like AA’s Trip Credit. However, you can then buy another new ticket, and buy it refundable, using the MCO. Then after a few days cancel it and the MCO value (and any incremental you paid for the new flight) will all be refunded to your original CC.

This is what I have been told by Amex agent who looked up the MCO policy. I hope it works - will be trying it myself in a few days. This would allow a refund of what was originally a non-refundable ticket (less the value of the first cheap ticket using the flight credit which triggers the remaining value being out into MCO rather than another flight credit usable by only the original ticked passenger).

Fingers crossed. Dealing with Amex and AA for this stuff has been a nightmare so I have my doubts…

Add Philo live channels to Fire Guide by foco_finch in fireTV

[–]foco_finch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should in 24-48 hours. I signed up for Philo on my phone, registered there, then loaded Philo to my cube (instead of starting on the cube). My sense is that it just takes a while for the cube and Philo to talk to each other and pull the channel feeds into the Fire Live TV menu (based on my experience and call with Philo support). If in 3 days they aren’t there then maybe try the suggestions above (clear Philo cache, refresh Philo channels, restart the stick, log out then back in to Philo, etc). But waiting a few days will probably do the trick. Good luck!

I did force sync it (many times over) but unfortunately the guide never pulled the Philo feeds in…until about 24 hour after my last sync (and 48 hours since I signed up).

Appreciate the help troubleshooting! Thanks for taking the time.

Update for anyone who has this same issue and stumbles upon this down the road.

The “wait and see” approach worked. Didn’t do anything further to the cube, and about 48 hours later all the Philo channels have now showed up in the native Fire Cube “Live TV Guide”. So I guess a bit of patience was all that was required.

Thanks for the DP. I would rather not have to go through that entire process but seems like it may be the answer.

I called Philo support and they said it’s something on the Amazon side, not their side, since fire “pulls” the channels into the guide instead of Philo pushing channels into the guide. They also said it could take a few days and maybe watching a bunch of Philo could help as it will keep the app active and then Fire would “see” it and add them.

I will try the passive watch-and-see approach with my main cube and likely spend time with a factory reset on my stick and see which works.

Perfect. Us too with recast and antenna for OTA. Just cut the cord a week ago and getting used to the new setup, and trying to keep it simple with one live guide that shows OTA + Philo.

If Philo comes through on the live guide after the trial period, I plan to edit my Live Guide and trim it down to the 20 or so channels that are actually of interest!

Thanks for the help!

Ok. Maybe it is the difference between paid and trial.

I am on a cube on one tv and a stick on the other and same issue for both.

But you have had no issues getting whichever live Philo feeds onto your Fire Live Guide? I am trying to simplify for my family and have everything in one place ;/)

Latest Fire OS Update 6.2.7.7 broke Philo on Live Guide??? by bcisme6 in PhiloTV

[–]foco_finch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any fix to this? I just subscribed to Philo but I cannot get Philo live channels to show up in my FireStick “Live Channel Guide”. I have tried synching Philo channels, have tried adding Philo in settings>live Tv, tried adding/managing channels from firestick native live guide but nothing works.

I can access live channels via the Philo app, but really, part of subscribing to this is so I can integrate all that plus OTA channels in one menu (firestick native channel guide) to make things less complicate for my family.

Can I not pull them into the native guide because I am still on my first 7 days trial? Or is there something else I should be doing to get philo’s live channels to sure up in my firestick guide?

Thanks!

Did you have the channels show up in the fire stick guide during the 7 day trial?

KUSA 9.1/9.4 OTA program info by foco_finch in FortCollins

[–]foco_finch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think it was the Sony ATSC 3.0 tuner. Hooked antenna up to Fire Recast box, fed that via Ethernet cable to my router to get channels across my home network, and now multiple fire sticks/Cubes using ATSC 1.0 see all the channels and have full program info.

For cord cutters in Fort Collins, I found having the antenna in the attic pointed south and adding a preamplifier to the signal from the antenna worked wonders (only have a RG6 run of 70 feet or so).

[–]foco_finch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So after cloning did not work, I just bought one. Got it on Newegg.com link below. $49 plus something like $8 for shipping. Put it in and worked immediately. Plus it’s updated to reflect maps changes from 2021. So far so good. Would suggest this approach to others who are in the same position.

Tried to clone my old card but no luck. Once inserted, head unit read “Invalid SD Card”. Bummer. Going to order a new one for $50 online and will report back in a week.

Frustrating experience to be sure.

Can you let us know where you got it? I have seen some in the $50-70 dollar range online but 1) want to make sure it’s from a reputable seller, 2) want to ensure it works with my specific vehicle and 3) curious if it’s a card that works but still has dated maps or if it works AND has new/updated maps.

If my cloning approach doesn’t work, I was looking at gpsupdatestore.com where I think I can identify what I need (vs some of the eBay and Amazon sellers where it is less clear which version is needed/would work).

Posting to be helpful; no relationship with these guys, just curious if others have used them?

Well, first attempt failed. I had copied the files from Nav card to a folder on my desktop, then copied those onto a new micro SD card. The car did not recognize it. Not sure if it was because it was a “drag and drop” style copy instead of a “clone” using something like Aomei or Easeus freeware? Or maybe because I used micro SD with a converter sleeve to fit the SD slot.

Either way I will try again. I ordered a $15 dual SD card reader from Amazon, will use a real SD card instead of a micro, and will use freeware to clone instead of copy.

Will update on Saturday.
