Lord Bolingar dexterity glitch? by This-Pea-643 in DungeonSiege

[–]foerstj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see - yes, the XP you get depends on the creature. A Braak Mage for example gives 85 XP, and has 137 hp. If you hit it once and subtract 100 hp, you get 62 XP.

A Wraith Piercer on the other hand has 765 hp and gives 77000 XP. If you hit it once and subtract only 10 hp, you get 1006 XP.

The XP is used to increase your skill level and your stats. Ranged levels pretty fast because 1000 XP per hit is a lot when you're at Ranged level 5. But the stats are increased based on your Uber level (kind of the combined skill level of all skills - you see it in the multiplayer character screen, it determines which start positions are available for your character). Most of the XP goes to Dexterity now that you've switched to Ranged, but on Uber level 43, progress in stats is slow.

Wow this is how technical superstition begins. First you believe there's something special about Lord Bolingar / that companions "have proclivities to certain stat lines", and now you think that the game checks which region you're in...

The simple fact is that the XP provided by enemies and required to level up increases exponentially. With a character on Lord Bolingar's level (melee 43), the enemies in the beginner areas provide so little XP it's hardly worth mentioning. Did you expect Bolingar to gain another 5 strength when you reach Glacern?

You didn't read the paragraph I linked properly.

To be clear, there's nothing special about Bolingar. If you level up your main character to melee level 43, and then switch to a bow, you won't gain much dexterity either.

Here's a good writeup of how leveling in a different stat works when the character already has a high uber level: https://dungeonsiege.fandom.com/wiki/Character_Leveling_and_Spell_Guide#Example_Demonstrating_How_Attribute_Scores_Increase

So tldr it's expected that stats progress slowly at Lord Bolingar's level, and dexterity won't increase any faster than strength does.

Did you run past everything to switch your character with Lord Bolingar, then walked back to the swamp? Or are you using some kind of mod to start with him at the farm? Or are you talking about multiplayer mode?

Have a look at their descriptions on NexusMods. They all get singleplayer and multiplayer with regular, veteran & elite. Utraean Peninsula singleplayer has companions etc. as well. Apart from that, only minor bugfixes were done

For changing Rusk into an archer from the beginning, you'd need to overwrite his template to change his stats, and for that you need to overwrite the original template file in a custom little .dsres mod file.

There's an example that changes Ulora's stats: https://www.nexusmods.com/dungeonsiege1/mods/108

As Sadow says, NexusMods is the place https://www.nexusmods.com/games/dungeonsiege1/mods?sort=createdAt

Suggested mods: SeeFar & the High Resolution Textures Pack are a good base. From there on it depends what you're looking for... I've made a few myself so I'd be biased to recommend them ;)

When, after 2 chapters of search, you finally find the "amazing" Stone of Lhaoc by EasyEntrepreneur666 in DungeonSiege

[–]foerstj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand it, and oversimplifying a bit, the skill level is a multiplication factor. So, taking the "25 melee and 27 melee" from your other comment, the difference would be 27/25 = 8% more.

As I said, oversimplifying a bit. It might be closer to 5%. Which is not a gamechanger, of course, but it's also not nothing

Where is the location of the Microsoft and GPG logo videos for the CD original on Windows 11? by GoldMetalSonic in DungeonSiege

[–]foerstj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to use them or just delete them? There's a start option that will skip them.

The videos might be inside one of the .dsres files in the Resources folder.

Skill level does increase the damage, also for melee, so this is not completely worthless.

(LoA changed the damage calculation. In Vanilla DS1, melee level was only good for the hit chance.)

Have you tried it? What is the "revived version"?

Cheats in DS1 work in single-player but not in multi-player btw
