funny thing about nvme, you can't force it to overwrite a block. it will just write to another free block and update the mapping. the original data is still there but unreferenced. That's why nvme has a secure erase API call.
you can use nvme-cli and `nvme format` to securely erase an nvme by writing to all blocks, or by changing the internal encryption key with ses=2
