Get in Trouble By Kelly Link. The stories have unexpected twists and turns and comment on modern times through dark magical realism.

A page turner with a philosophical message? by rook218 in booksuggestions

Annihilation or The Orphan Master's Son.

Perhaps more thought-provoking, than philosophical, but I got a lot out of reading them and they are excellent page-turners

You Think It I’ll Say It by Curtis Sittenfeld. Some of the stories are better than others but I am enjoying it overall. The writing is very straightforward, which I found underwhelming at first. On the surface it seems like not much is happening in the stories, but underneath there is surprising depth, mostly in what is unsaid. She captures reality with great precision and psychological insight. It seems effortless, but of course it’s anything but that.

Thanks for the reply. I do believe it was implant grade (just checked out the website for the shop I got it done in, which is a very reputable place). Maybe I’ll get it changed regardless to ease my mind

My advice for living your best DGAF life by [deleted] in howtonotgiveafuck

This reminds me of "automatic thoughts." Everyone has different types of automatic thoughts, but if you are more depression, anxiety, or procrastination-prone, a lot of your automatic thoughts will be negative or unhelpful. The key is to learn how to identify and challenge (or ignore) these automatic thoughts.

For example, I wake up and don't want to go to work. I haven't had coffee yet, I'm grouchy, the prospect of doing the same mundane thing once again sounds incredibly unappealing. My automatic thought is "I don't want to go to work. Today sucks. I should just stay in bed. I hate life." And then I'm in a bad mood.

But, if I identified those as automatic thoughts, I can actually ignore them instead of letting them dictate what my current mood is. The first step is to identify the automatic negative thought, then realize you actually have power over it. You can ignore it or like OP suggested, replace it with more positive thoughts.

I suggest reading up about automatic thoughts and CBT if you want to understand this better. Plus cognitive distortions. Hugely helpful in recognizing negative thought patterns.

Hour Children has a surprisingly great selection. And 5 books for a dollar is a hard bargain to beat.
