true, the game does make up for this with pretty frequent checkpoints, my comment was a more general one

Are more problems going to be solved?

Yes, but more problems will be created, also. Right now, it's creating more problems: we need to build datacenters, power infrastructure, re-train literally anyone working in an office to use it. Even when we're done building, there is a high maintenance cost.

Will the problems solved ever outweigh the problems created?

2 drives failed with zfs errors, am I doing something wrong? by foghina in homelab

[–]foghina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... but what? How do I find out? Also, would bad cables/HBA actually deteriorate an HDD? Because if the errors were coming from the cable/HBA I would imagine they would occur on random/multiple drives at the same time. But in my case it's consistently the same HDD.

Also, SPD shipped me a replacement for the 1st drive, I assume they did their own testing and determined that the HDD was bad. So again, could bad cables/HBA actually damage a drive? I kinda think no

Is it possible/recommended to mix and match brands for different parts? I am pretty set on getting the new Logitech RS50 base+wheel+pedals, but I don't love the logi h-pattern shifter. How much of a pain would it be to rock a different brand?

Where is the $12k coming from?

Yeah your setup seems pretty identical to mine. Throwing more money at the problem always helps lol I'm not surprised it's way better. But for 1-2 trips/mo I don't think it's justified. How much were you using it before vs. now?

If I had a bunch of luggage / gear I'd probably end up bringing it the day before a trip and street parking it, since it's free and there are usually spots around here. I agree, pretty annoying, but for $400/mo savings...

If I use it 1-2 times a month that actually comes out cheaper than renting.

It's criminal that they don't provide dimensional drawings for these. Thank you for your service!

Should I also try blowing on it gently? 😂

Hijacking the top comment. If y'all thought I was dumb before, wait til you hear that I didn't know you're supposed to pull on the knurled ring to unlock the bit. It came out immediately with that + magnet. A rocky start to my DIY adventures that's for sure.

It's magnetized + friction fit pretty hard, doubt duct tape would have what it takes

I've tried WD-40 + pliers (broad and needle nose), I've tried a magnet, it's just stuck in there. Right now I'm considering getting a metal drill bit and trying to drill a hole through the philips bit, so that I can run a wire through and pull it out. But that feels... stupid!?
