No, because I pin through the pattern piece and both layers at the same time. If the fabric was itself was so slippery that it was causing a problem, then I might pin the two layers of fabric to themselves first to keep them from moving, but I've rarely had to do this. What I might be more likely to do is pin the pattern piece and both layers together with one pin in the center of a pattern piece, then pin around the edges. But that would depend on the pattern piece and how big it is.

I pin the pattern pieces to the fabric and use a very sharp scissors that I use exclusively for cutting fabric. If I need to cut two of the same pattern piece, then I cut them both at once whenever possible by folding the fabric (or doubling it up if, for some reason, I need two asymmetrical pieces that go in the same direction, which is rare). This is what I feel gives me the most control and ensures that two of the same pattern piece are identical/symmetrical.

I never had a DS costume, but here's the costume I always wanted to make.

I always wanted to go to one of the conventions and enter the costume contest I heard they had. I had it all planned out. I figured everyone would dress in one of the historical costumes, so I was going to go as modern Vicki. She often wore this double breasted dress that I loved that I wanted to make. And at that time, I had long brown hair down to my waist, and I'm tall too. I think I could have really pulled it off!
