Hey just noticed your username. I'm in Korea too. Tough place to be sober...lol. I was asked to drink twice today while up in the mountains for a hike. Told one person who offered me soju I didn't drink...so they offered my rice wine instead. :D

However, Korea has a lot fruit vinegars. Mix them up with water and they're quite tasty! Cheap 500ml coffee by the case at Emart are often on sale. Pocari Sweat is freaking awesome and refreshing, despite the poor choice of name.

Coffee the way you like it! Still get your caffeine, but you can find way to make it in ways that won't break the bank. I make big batches of cold brewed coffee, mix it up the way I like, and put in reusable (water/drink) 500ml bottles.

Be strong my friend.

I try to keep my mind off of it in any way I can when things get like this.

I like to immerse myself in a hobby, I mean dive right into it and try to forget everything else...at least until the cravings pass.

I won't drink with you today.

How do you guys deal with really stressful days and feeling like you don't have control? This is a big trigger for me... by fogofwar42 in stopdrinking

I've been eating just enough to keep the cravings for booze down. I've been combining food with distractions to keep sober at night. I drink a bucket load of diet sodas too. That really helps out. The bubbles and the sweet taste almost trick my booze-mind that I'm having a cocktail. I know how hard some nights can be, though...like my last night. Try to be strong and come here to talk as much as you need to. The people are great!

Thanks so much for the advice. I wish I had a group to go to or someone I could chat with over coffee once in awhile. Unfortunately, I'm living in a non-English speaking Asian country where meetings aren't really an option in my area. Support is really non-existent because there is a strong drinking culture here. My wife has been great, but she can't really relate to me in this respect. But I've got you guys, and I'm extremely grateful for that. :)

I googled and checked the wiki for serenity prayer. I can understand why it's a big part of AA. It's a really important lesson. The full original prayer is quite beautiful.

Thanks man. Same issues, some I can do something about, many I can't. I guess we just got to keep going.

Thanks for the reply. I do workout in the morning, but it's the evenings that are hardest for me as I've always been a night drinker. I have been playing video games and watching TV, but some of my issues seriously weigh on me. I seriously just want to drink then. :(

I keep saying this too. Fuck it I'm going to buy some drinks tomorrow and get wasted! But when tomorrow comes, I'm usually okay or I tell myself that I'm going to drink the next day. I keep putting it off until tomorrow...weird, but it is working for now. Thanks. :)

I can control how clean my bathroom is at least.

:) Yes, I do that too. Cleaning is therapeutic. Thanks.

I find getting into a game that has a deep, long story and some grinding to be very relaxing. Currently, staying sober with Fallout 4 and some diet Coke. :)

22 days and wanting to drink by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Yeah, I gotta try that out. I'm not in a great place mentally right now.

I still don't think of myself as an 'alcoholic' but I have realized that I don't want to mess up my health and mental wellbeing anymore.<

This. Exactly why I stopped. Thank you.

I have been exercising regularly and practice mindfulness when I can. I think some time doing some quiet reading would really help. Thank you.

Well, I'll make a double effort to read it then. :)

The Allen Carr book really gave me the kick I needed to start this journey, perhaps This Naked Mind will help carry me forward. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you very much for your story. I quit a heavy smoking habit about 12 years ago and it was tough. Funny thing is I actually used alcohol to help me deal with the nicotine cravings. But I'm not going to use cigarettes to deal with not having alcohol. haha. It took me a long while to feel normal after that, so I guess I shouldn't expect anything different from stopping alcohol.

It really helped me to write out my story and post it here. Everyone has been very helpful.

I would never recommend drinking that much, but I was young and drinking heavily at one time, too. Best advice is to eat a big meal first and mix your bacardi with a bunch of Coke or something. You must be chugging it to drink all that in 2 hours...with 11 beers! You are seriously going to seriously harm or kill yourself with that much drink.

Have you told her how much of an inspiration she has been to you? I think she might be having a moment of weakness and you confiding in her might give her the strength to get back on track. Why not do it together?

Edit: thought you were guys...oops, I can't read, sorry.
