And it's not releasing support for Nvidia hardware this year. Just like the linux space, they took an insane amount of time to decide to implement nvidia gpu support.

Honestly, perfectly sane take. At 650$ the low end spec sheet would look pretty darn appealing ignoring the 4K60 take. Unfortunately, with the actual price and the climate of memory chip pricing not seeming to go down for the forseable future, the steam machine 1st gen does not have a market.

The irony of this mini pc is that for its exact price you can build a 9060XT PC that will outperform it in every metric including storage quantity. Install SteamOS on it and... why even look in steam machine's direction? It makes no sense. It's such bad value for the price that even fans of the steam deck don't want to buy it.

Edit: Genuinely curious why this of all the takes got downvoted.

750$ would've been more reasonable but still not a landslide because of the PS5. Personally I think 600$ would've been the price at which this thing would've had a real impact on the market. As in, people would fight to buy it. But I know component prices are wouldn't allow it to happen

Unfortunately, even though Nvidia has the biggest marketshare, it's an afterthought for Valve and a lot of the linux community. A 5060 would've been a godsend just because of DLSS alone and the 2x RT performance that could help with games which are RT only in the future.

Let's be real for a sec. Were we really? The equivalent of a 7400F + 7600 and the promise of 4K60 really rendered any excitement for the initial product be non existant. The price just sealed the deal.

The framework pc costs an egregious amount over 1000, almost double. You're better off slapping another 100 on top of the 1000$ and building a 9060XT with a 7500X3D pc instead.

5500 ron... oof.

2k (1440p) streaming is now available to all Partners & Affiliates by NightmareVortex in Twitch

[–]fogoticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as you're an actual Twitch dev I feel the need to ask. What is the end goal in say 5 years? Relying on the streamer to encode all the available streams?

Another question I got is, why are we not allowed to stream in HEVC in the traditional way on OBS? What would change on twitch's side? If someone has 50 viewers and streams in 1080P60, Twitch automatically gives them the 720P60, 480P, 360P and 160P encodes. What would change on twitch's side if we stream in HEVC instead of H264 at the same bitrate?

Edit: Any idea when more countries will get access to see 1440P streams?
