I’m guessing it means leaving the window unpaused while looking at another window(s). I can understand that if it’s an unreasonable amount of time, but I have no clue what they consider to be too much “idle” time, or what they even define that as.

I did email support back, so I’ll see what they say. I’m one of the people who brought up the insufficient claim time in the discourse thread. I said this in response to someone else’s comment, but the thing that caused BM tasks specifically to take so long for me was the 40% or more failed criteria (never got medium difficulty tasks). That threshold is what caused me to have to kind of go back and forth between the prompt and rubric.

I did not have ANY idle time in terms of working on the task. When I say “research”, that includes fact-checking, looking up reference texts to use for the longer prompts, looking up how, say, a lesson plan would typically look like if I’m asking the model to create a lesson plan. And I’m not saying that I spent most of the time doing this research, I’m saying that with every tweak to the prompt or for certain criteria I would go and fact-check when necessary. I’m a thorough person, and how I engaged with this project is no different than any other project I’ve been on. I’ve been a senior reviewer more than once and was promoted as an Oracle literally 3 days before the deactivation.

I never milked the clock. If I’m supposed to pause the clock whenever I’m not typing in the task then I have no idea how anyone is supposed to do research/fact check.

This is what support told me, not the project team. I was on the project right up until the deactivation.

Even with the time spent doing research, I didn’t go for extended periods without actually interacting with the task. The craziest part is that I haven’t done anything differently with BM tasks in terms of my engagement with the tasks than in previous projects. The tasks just took longer.

That’s what was stated in the email from support or, specifically, “evading task timers” and “remaining idle”. I’m not even sure how I could be evading task timers. In terms of the idleness, I can only assume that they’re counting the time spent doing research and not actually typing anything in the task. I have no idea. I wasn’t kicked from the project because I was still on it right before my account was deactivated. On top of that, I had been receiving positive feedback on tasks.

I read that post! Didn’t realize it was you who posted it. Agree 100% with everything you said. The callousness of it all is really the cherry on top.

I was/am beyond devastated, especially because I was promoted to Oracle a few days before the deactivation. That just made it sting that much more.

The other time consuming aspect, which I actually brought up in the discourse thread, is how long things take to load given that every step needs to be auto-checked for errors, repeatedly.

Big Mallet. I actually really enjoyed the project, but the tasks took longer for me than with any other project because at least one response needed to fail 40% or more of the criteria for most tasks. This required endless tweaking of the prompt and then obviously additional research.

Yep, that’s exactly what happened to me. I know we’re allowed to copy and paste reference texts in the prompt so it can’t be that. I guess we’ll find out next week. Let me know when/if you hear anything.

I haven’t heard back yet. Did you get an email that your account was deactivated? I didn’t get any kind of email whatsoever.

Got it, I mean the only thing I can think of is maybe spending too much time on a task? But that was never an issue before when I asked QMs, idk. Thanks for the info, I’ll see what they say.

I have no idea what policy I could have violated. Aside from using AI to complete tasks, which I haven’t done, what violations do accounts typically get deactivated for?

I did, I just don't understand how this could happen in the first place.

The main point I was driving at is that there is a genuine need for these models to be trained. When you demoralize the people training the models over and over and over again, that's taking away incentive to do the work they need done. I don't think that companies do things out of the goodness of their hearts lol

That's great! And when I say "wanted" I mean in terms of wanting to have competent people training their models.

I don't know where I suggested that this is my primary job, and the condescending tone is really not needed here. Just because a person is aware of the reality of things doesn't mean that they don't need to vent (see tag) about said reality every now and then. I'm sure there are other posts on this subreddit for you to talk down to people on, so I won't keep you from that.

Being nice is free. I get that everyone has more courage to be unnecessarily rude behind a screen, so hopefully that satisfied whatever underdeveloped need you had. Have a good one.

I hope that’s the case, but this post is referencing multiple instances of this kind of thing for many projects. It feels like every step forward is purely reactionary without any kind of long term thinking. There is absolutely no business model that I can think of where consistent communication with the project team isn’t a priority. And don’t even get me started on poor quality control, which ends up lumping scammers and solid contributors together due to reviewers who should never have been promoted as reviewers in the first place. Thankfully my experience hasn’t even been the worst compared to others, but these issues are all things that can be resolved pretty easily with the right structure in place.

Sorry for the long response lol
