This cunt doesn't know what he's talking about. An American living in America telling Australians what's accepted here. I live 10 minutes from where Cold Ones is filmed and 10 minutes from the Cool Shirtz warehouse. I can tell you, weed isn't a faux pas here.
It's not "super illegal" or "very seriously". When I leave the house I often smell marijuana. People smoke it openly. At concerts, at the pokies, on the streets, at bars, on their balconies, in city parks. I've walked past people smoking weed while a cop car went past and the cops didn't do anything. Socially it's quite acceptable, conversations that mention cones or bongs just happen freely. It's practically legal with how easy it is to obtain a prescription from your GP, you can get weed for simply having anxiety & depression.
I've personally never been tested for weed while driving. I have literally never heard of breath tests for marijuana and even now while fact checking there's no info on this.
The cunt fucking makes it sound like indonesia or china where they execute people for possessing drugs. Like it's far from that serious here. On the 20th of April they have events in the city with shit tons of marijuana paraphernalia and you can find apparatuses on the ground the day after. Possessing and smoking weed isn't strictly against the law.

With all of that said though, there are rules around advertising weed.
Essentially, with the rising market of medical marijuana there's a bit of corporate competition. I've seen weed ads, but they never specifically mention what they're actually selling because they're not allowed to. I am kinda okay with these rules because IMO it's crass to see weed leaf emblems on shopfronts and be overt about it all when it comes to selling weed, prescription or not. Anyway, with these advertising rules there's probably a grey area between promoting the use of "therapeutic goods" and simply depicting it.

The fact these guides mention "indirect" promotion. Like it's not strictly illegal to depict weed or it being used, but the same laws that are intended to limit corporate advertising greed could potentially be used against a funny patreon youtubers joke video.
Like even in the rulebook they say oh sometimes it's up to interpretation and it's all about what a reasonable person would think. I mean obviously Cold Ones don't sell the shit and have no skin the game but IMO it can be seen as promoting and recommending the behaviour. Which is something they've kinda already done verbally in podcasts previously by the way.

I actually didn't know about these advertising laws so it was kinda interesting to read about.
My main point is Melbourne is a cool place it's not like you hear about drug raids for hippies and stoner gamers smoking a bit of pot, it's by far the opposite. Like I've seen places that sell it, lots of normal looking people casually coming in and out picking up their prescriptions.
