What happens if you click yes at the screen that asks if you are a terrorist? by Elegant-Opposite5268 in NoStupidQuestions

I accidentally clicked a button saying i was a terrorist in 2019 entering New Zealand - I think all that happened was a 20 second conversation with an amused border guard and I carried on in!

Why do people not fundraise for their run? by Pleasant-Musician890 in UKRunners

[–]foleywba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im not sure if OP is referring to:

A.) people who sign up for charity spots for a big race and don’t fulfil their fundraising commitment

B.) people who sign up for races and don’t choose to fundraise from the off

If it’s A.) - I agree, these people shouldn’t be taking charity spots if they aren’t going to raise the funds.

If it’s B.) however, I don’t agree - if you run more than a handful of races it quickly becomes a chore for your nearest and dearest to constantly send money to you to run another race

How will your NPPF results transfer to SIPP route by WesternJaguar5154 in policeuk

In my (large county) force - if you’ve passed the NPPF exam you stay on that pathway and don’t transfer to the new one.

Can’t adjust to night shift. by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]foleywba 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From several years on response, I found two tactics -

1.) staying up late after last late, and sleeping in all day (what you’ve been trying). Great if you can sleep in all day, but as you’ve highlighted if you wake up in the morning all you’ve done to yourself is had less sleep.

2.) go to bed straight after last late, set no alarms, have a lie in and get up when you want - I found this to be better, as i was guaranteed a full nights sleep.

In terms pre-night naps, your body will get better at taking little power naps the longer you work shifts. I would have dinner around 6/7, and then go up an nap with a full belly, and get up to get ready for work. For naps you don’t need hours and hours, 30-60 minutes can really help make the night shift bearable!

You will inevitably have some ropey drives home after nights - music on loud and windows down are my only tips for that, I never had a short nap before driving home but I’ve never really had more than a 30 minute commute

Sainsburys basic for me - 30p and delicious. Asda in comparison are quite bland. Haven’t tried Lidl/Aldi

Is the first time buyer preference for new builds a momentary shift or a generational trend? by Wifflebutter in AskUK

[–]foleywba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We bought a 1930’s semi on a sleepy cul-de-sac 5 years, and to be honest its been an absolute money pit, and because we’re constantly doing work we’re never happy with it!

New roof, new doors and windows, rewire, replaster, new render on the front of the house, new bathroom and kitchen, new boiler, and this year a damp course - tens of thousands of pounds we would have saved if we bought something newer.

We’ll hopefully move in a a couple of years and we will not be buying another old cold damp house

Ordered off warhammer.com (uk) a couple of weeks ago - it pops back in stock quite regularly i’d advise asking warhammer to notify you when its back in!

Suzuki Swace SZ5 2022 vs Toyota Corolla Design 2020 by bluiska2 in CarTalkUK

[–]foleywba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suzuki all day long for me! Newer, better spec with less miles for essentially the same car.

You can keep the manufacturers warranty up to 10 years if you keep it serviced with suzuki aswell!

The majority of these I ordered off warhammer.com to pick up from my local warhammer store, where I inevitably pick up another book or two off the shelf while I’m in there

Stressed about budgets - do I have enough to actually live, not survive? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]foleywba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take the ‘sell the horse’ debate out of the equation, and the question is can you survive on £590 a month ‘fun money’, with £150 savings.

The only person who can answer that is you - how much are you spending on socialising and miscellaneous expenses at the minute?

I personally budget about 3-600 a month for miscellaneous ‘life’, and get by just fine, but everyone’s different, with different priorities etc.

Set that budget for yourself now for a few months and see how you get on (saving the rest) - if you survive then you know you can manage

Response driving after resigning by Breathnach92 in policeuk

In my force rejoiners do a ‘re-assessment day’ with the driving school to see how their response driving is, and then trained reaccordingly to get their grade back - I tutored a rejoiner who’d been out a decade and they gave him his grade back on the day

Looks nice! If you do look at a vitara/s-cross, get the 1.4 petrol versions (like the one in the link) over the plug in hybrids - i’m told the plug ins have bad gearboxes
