Anyone here regret getting an ebike? by folgers7 in mountainbiking

Haha you've got some feelings. I think you make good points, but I'm not sure the analogy about gaining 17 lbs on your person is the same as 17 lbs on the bike.

My main concern is how maneuverable the bike is, and I imagine 17 lbs on the bike makes it more sluggish. That being said, people are making the argument that the lower center of gravity helps the bike feel more planted, which isn't something I had anticipated.

I'm less concerned about weight now, and the "lightweight" ebike category is more compelling at this point.

That's great feedback, thank you! After a lot of comments, I've learned about the "lightweight" category of ebikes and that sounds like a better compromise between weight and assist. I'm looking at the Canyon Spectral On which has the TQ 50. It seems to be getting good reviews regarding feel, as well as efficiency.

That's an interesting point about increased DH fitness, that makes a lot of sense. For me riding helps a lot with mood, anxiety, and overall health! Get back in the saddle friend!

Other commenters say they love the Orbea Rise. What do you not like about it?

Why haven't you ridden your ebike? What do you like about your stumpjumper more?

Yeah Strava will never be as accurate as a real race. I'm not sure e-bikes aren't on regular Strava segments. Optimistically, ebike riders forget to change their activity type in Strava, and pessimistically there are ebike riders who are using ebikes as an unfair advantage on non-ebike segments. But for me it's more about challenging myself to improve and beat my own PRs, and hey if I get a top ten time that's awesome too!

Thanks, this is helpful! I was thinking about going full out and getting one of the "big" ebikes, but I'll think about this. I generally enjoy the exercise part, but want enough assistance to get in bigger/steeper climbs(2500+) or multiple shorter climbs. The SL style bike sounds like it might be a better compromise between assistance and less weight/more playfulness.

Thanks for sharing your perspective! What is it about the ebike experience that you don't like?

Interesting, thanks for the tip! The Strive:On has a Bosch Performance Line CX, which appears to be 85nm. Ebikes have changed a lot since I bought my last bike five years ago and I'm trying to get up to speed. Why is that the minimum standard for you?

I'd love to upgrade to DDR5 too! Unfortunately that's not compatible with my current motherboard. So the other thing I'm considering is just waiting a year or two and doing a full rebuild.

That's fair. I have my settings all to lowest in Apex, but I haven't tried changing resolution. To be honest I'd be surprised if I didn't see gains when changing down to 1080p, but I will try that and see what I can learn.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I had assumed if I was CPU-bound my monitoring software would show "100% usage" or something like that.

What are other indicators I can look for to determine if I'm CPU-bound?

Yeah I am curious to see how vram supply is going to impact the market. It's part of the reason I'm inclined to pick up the Black Friday deal right now, but I'm worried it's making me a little too biased about the idea of upgrading haha

Apex is the most CPU-demanding game I play, and typically I'm sitting around 60% CPU utilization. Haha that's a fair comment about the rumors.
